What are you canning now?

If anybody is still looking for bottles for their homemade vanilla extract, check out this ebay seller.

I just bought some from him today. He lists it as $14.99/best offer plus the $15.19 shipping for 50 three ounce bottles. I submitted an offer of $10.99 plus shipping. He declined and made a counter offer of $12.99 plus shipping. I accepted that. So I am paying a total of $28.18 fot 50 bottles. That's only $0.56 per bottle. It looked like he had 2 lots of 50 for sale, so there is another box of 50 available. The listing says the bottles are glass, brand new, have caps and are lab surplus.

Bull----literally a bull. Neighbor's bull has been on my land for a month now. Yesterday he was trampling around in 'stock' dayliliy field. I called him up and said get him NOW!! My DH helped him 'do the deed' and as I type this they are butchering, grinding most into hamburger (that is all it's good for) and I'll can a batch of stew meat.

7 pints of yummy apple butter
I canned 21 qts of green beans last night, and have another 1/2 bushel to do tonight. It's been just too hot to can during the day, unless I want to go can in the basement, and I'm too lazy to carry all my stuff down there to do it.

Gonna try to get some apples canned, more apple butter, some pears, pear butter, and pear honey.

After I do the canned beans, I'll be outta qt jars. Just bought 2 cases of pints, and they'll be gone very quickly, so need to get more!

Gosh, I wish jars were cheap, or free!

My boss is going to visit his sister in Oregon that owns a Blueberry farm. I requested a flat of them. Have looked in all my canning books and a little on Internet for unique Blueberry jam/jelly recipes. Saw some with oranges and lemons that might be good. Do any of you have a unique recipe?

Thanks, Sandee

P.S. Off to the kitchen to make halo's chocolate chip bars. We laugh at a quote we saw once - "If it's not chocolate then it better be bacon"

I canned corn for the first time! Got only 12 quarts and a freezer bag full - we only planted four rows and this is our first year for a garden at the new house. DH thought it was good but I don't think its enough - It weighed out about half a bushel after we shucked and cut the end off.

What are you doing with your chopped bell peppers? I have a good crop of gypsy peppers, and wondering what to do with them.

I am chopping them, freezing them, and then putting them up using that blasted food saver. Though had the food saver not been a gift from my Mother and I needed to show her I used it, I would have just been portioning them out into freezer bags and squeezing the air out. I will have enough bell pepper to last a long long time. Actually I'll be sending a lot to my family. Right now I'm up to 15 bags (2 servings per bag), and probably chopped that much today.

OMG .. I've got my first ever jars of green beans in the canner ...

Congratulations! It's a great feeling to see all those filled jars on the shelves.

I'm waiting on the last canner of spaghetti sauce. I have another 1/2 bushel of tomatoes all peeled and quartered, but they are in the frig until tomorrow.

I dehydrated tomatoes for the first time last year. I sure would appreciate any tips on dehydrating, espcially cherry tomatoes.
Do you cut the cherry tomatoes in half?
Has anyone tried oven roasting tomato halves and then dehydrating?

Thanks for your help.
