What are you canning now?

Does anyone have a living well montel Williams pressure cooker? I had one for my mom ... She used it twice and I used it bout 3 times... Then the float valve felll out... I put the piece back I found but something could be missing. I tried searching to ese if it needed something but there are no parts available. So I am tired of looking at it and thought I'd offer it to here to someone who might want it for parts, gasket, etc. will send to someone if u pay shipping only...I just hate to see it go it the trash. Thanks

Hi All, I haven't posted in this thread in a long time, but I love reading it! I'm finally ready to graduate from water bath to pressure canning, woohoo! I'm looking at the All American canners - you all have convinced me they are worth it

For size - The 21 quart - holds 19 pints and 7 quarts is $219
The 30 quart - holds 19 pints and 14 quarts is $280

Is there any reason not to get the bigger one? I feel like if i'm spending that much money I might as well get the one that will cut my time canning down significantly. Even if I'm doing a smaller batch I can still just use the larger one, correct? Any thoughts from you seasoned veterans is much appreciated.

I have the 930 it's taller than the others and it always seems that I can get an extra layer of jars because of the height. I can mostly fish. I think Goodmans (google it) had the best price. Good luck and happy canning!

Get the largest one.
I hate when I am canning and I have to do certain things in pints.
I can not stack them so I have to do 2 batches.
The cool down time takes a while, so I never seem get finished before 10 pm.
It makes for a long day.

I had 86 cases of 1/2 pints of tuna in every space available in my house. Try to get one that your friends don't have then when you can you can borrow theirs, or borrow theirs and see which you like. Oh... If your wondering I owned a fishing boat business for 10 years, retired with gunieas and dog and husband

I love cookbooks, too. Always get at least one for Christmas or birthdays. This is my cookbook wall.....

It also serves as a place to house my chicken cookie jar collection.
I told DW I was NOT buying here any more cook books as she doesn't use them. I'm more inclined to use them. I have three canning books for Jellies and stuff and I've used mine more. Just made Plum lime jam. Making Plum lemon next. I used frozen plums and I'm not sure it came out as well as fresh Plums. Any thoughts on how well frozen fruit works for Jams and jellies?

FYI, I would never buy a NEW cookbook. Too many USED are like new. Especially if they come from people like DW.

I have some in the garage as she had to thin out the herd as there was not enough room. I'll let you know what there is if you're interested. BYC members just have to pay shipping. Sent media mail it shouldn't be too much. We are BIG book people.

I've been discussing on the "Homesteading" thread beans. I'm hoping to grow beans to dry for food use. Plus beans for freezing. Anyone here dry beans for later use?  What kind did you grow?

I'm curious too. Was thinking about chick peas but it sounded a bit like you don't get many per plant.
I'm always buying cans of 3 bean mix too so that might be a better way to be looking.
