What are you canning now?

Well, I had to break down and buy some jelly jars from Big Lots. They were $7.00 for a dozen. I have a gazillion pint and quart jars but ran out of the jelly jars. I'll be making some blackberry and raspberry jelly from last years crop that's in the freezer. It's so dry here this year that there really aren't any raspberries to harvest, they've just shriveled up. Blueberries are so high priced that I guess I have to pass on making my favorite blueberry jam. Oh well, maybe more banana jam will be in the making, too.

Put up six jars of 1/2 pints of blueberry jam today; gift from our fabulous, awesome rural route lady ( she always brings my shipped eggs here first! before doing the rest of her route! thanks in part to her, I have some of the breeds I always dreamed about). She will definetly have a couple jars waiting for her on Tues!

Picking a ton of "garden salsa peppers" -- thinking of putting up pepper jelly -- anybody ever done that & have a good recipe? you can only do so much w/salsa...

figs due in a couple of weeks, but I'll break out the dehydrator for those puppies.

edited to correct size of qts - that was six jars 1/2 pint size, not six 1/2 pints, duh!

Cinnamon Pickles. I doesn't look like I will get many cukes this year. We have been without rain for many days now....its getting really dry here.

Lord, please send some rain down. Amen

TerriLaChicks and Acre of Blessings I am so envious of your blueberry jam! That is my all time favorite jam to do but the blueberries are so high-priced I doubt I'll be getting to do any this year.

I have a shred of hope tho - I might find them frozen somewhere at a decent price.
Anyway... I did 7 jars of blackberry/raspberry jelly today. Man, there just aint anything to compare to homemade jelly.

I did a tour of our raspberry plants this afternoon and all hope is lost for any raspberries to pick this year. All the plants have wilted and there are no berries left. I am so glad I have lots of big bags in the freezer. It's a steamy 98 degrees out there right now - glad I got finished early with my canning today!

Yum, both of those look good!

I used up bruised tomatoes in 8 half-pints of Ketchup. And cleaned up some bruised peaches, got 4 cups chopped - put those in the freezer for jam at another time.

I'm still looking at a bunch of cucumbers that have to go into something. The overgrown ones will be a relish....the proper sized will probably go into grape leaf pickles.

Thanks for reminding me about Dollar Tree. I do find great deals there sometimes. If I can just make 4 precious little jars of blueberry jam I'd be a really happy camper!!!
