What are you canning now?

I did up four pints of raspberry jam with another four to go tomorrow. I also got my tomatoes pureed and waiting in the fridge to be cooked and canned tomorrow. Hoping to pick up some cukes tomorrow at the farmers market so I can make pickles, too.

So I got sent to get ice yesterday for Darcy's party and made a detour to the Ace place and ordered 10 cases of jars. They were out but they had some in the warehouse. Didn't tell DW.

Hencles sent me another e-mail about berries and tomatoes. I may just buy tomatoes for canning. They have some plum, though when I grow my own they're just a mix of whatever is ripe at the time. Red, orange, yellow, whatever.

I'm looking at garlic in the catalogs. Does anyone grow garlic? If so any particular kind you prefer? Anyone add garlic to anything they can?

Take care rainy day today,

Rancher.

(i know on one of these posts there was someone from Franklin , NC. My DB and his just moved there)

I went to lowe's yesterday and completely sold out of jars already... and they haven't put anything else on sale yet. I've been hoping to start calling around to see what has what left right now. I need about 6 more cases of jelly jars, and probably 3 cases of pint jars to get me through this month.

With the fair coming I am planning on entering again this year (NC State Ag Fair in Raleigh). Is anyone else going to be doing fall competitions with their canned goods???

I like to grow garlic in a container on my deck in the winter time. We pretty much eat it all while it's still green, like a spring onion. It's nice to have just a little something fresh and home grown in the winter.

I plant cloves from the grocery store.

I bought grocery store garlic for planting, too. Nice thing is, once you get it started you're set for life, basically. You can just keep putting cloves back in the ground.

If you're looking for seed garlic, specifically, however Baker Creek has theirs available now for fall planting.

The are soooooooo many apples this year! Its the best year I have ever seen. Went to my family's farm and picked 25 gallons so far and didn't even put a dent in them. Got 5 gallons on the stove to make a double batch of no peel'em apple butter

Rancher- I grew lots of garlic this year. I bought the bulbs from www.wegrowgarlic.com. The Pennsylvania dutch grew the biggest for me but they all had their positive qualities, best keeper, hottest etc.... I hopefully will be pickling garlic today on top of the 1000 other canning projects I have to do today. My last day of summer vaca.... blah.
