What are you canning now?

Quote:
Mine is sporadically productive and half dead, eaten by pests ... kind of fits.
Well, I know what I should be canning ... apple sauce, apple butter, and apple pie filling ... however, it's all on hold until we get our new driveway done. Not enough hours in the day! Now if I can just keep the rabbits out of the boxes of apples. Sigh.

Ok canning geniuses!!! I need help again:(

Mybwatermelon jelly didnt form..runny and my Cherry bomb jelly disnt form...I have 14 1/2 pint jars of both...what would you do? Exactly what would you do? This rots! Lol

I have a bunch of tomatoes to test my new fruit & veggie strainer for the kitchenaid on tomorrow (I think we have we have about the same about as you Bock and would love your hot and mild salsa recipes)
Well since I've been really short on time here lately and didn't want them to go to waste, I cheated and bought 2 packets of medium Mrs. Wages Salsa mix and for the hot chopped up red chili peppers from the garden. As long as my husband and step son likes it, that's all that matters! I have about another 2-3 gallons that will be ready today and of course more by Friday so this weekend I'm going to do the ragu spaghetti sauce copycat and if I have enough, some totally homemade salsa. I'll get you that recipe tonight once I get home

Where did you find a copycat recipe for ragu? How large a batch does it make? I wasn't super crazy about the sauce I've canned the last couple of years (not bad, just not great), so I would love to try a new spaghetti recipe!

I found it while searching online. I haven't got to try it yet but I wont eat any other kind of spaghetti sauce, other than ragu traditional. AND, I don't like hunks of any kind of vegetable in it so this one calls to run it all through a blender and then cook it down to thicken it. Right up my alley!

Its funny but I have 3 or 4 people who looove my spaghetti. Um lets see. 1) brown and drain the meat. 2) cover in sauce and simmer 3) Cook the noodles. Done. No added anything. As plain Jane as you can get it but they love it! My brother drives 30 minutes just to come to dinner. I'm like c'mon. I know even your wife can do this.

We are on a partial water ban here. Even with the rain the last two nights, the garden (and everything else for that matter) is looking pretty dry and wilted. I think the rain came down way too fast and way too hard for the ground to absorb it well.

Looking at your siggy ~As is the garden , So is the gardener - unknown~ hmmm.....that makes me dry, wilted, and a bit weedy...

The city sold rain barrels for half price this year. Which is about par considering there's been little rain. We are supposed to get a storm tonight. I wish I'd gotten some rain barrels to save on my water bill. I wish I hadn't poked holes in the bottom of my plastic trash cans.

You have seen my can method of water conservation? It could help save some of your crop. Also before the rain pull back any mulch you have and then replace it after the rain. If you don't have any mulch then I would apply it after the rain.

Newspapers make good mulch if laid under a layer of hay or straw.
