My tomatoes came started coming in MAY. My determinant varieties are dying, but my indeterminants are still going strong.

The only thing we normally grow June - August is

EGGPLANT
OKRA
WATERMELON
LIMA BEANS

rub it in now. With your weather, you could probably grow tomatoes all year long.

Our garden got a late start this year. I usually plant by May 10th - this year it was almost June before we planted because we got snow right before Memorial Day. Luckily I hadn't planted my stuff yet, but I still ended up having to replant the cucumbers because of the cool weather. Even had to replant my herbs and that's never happened before. Summer weather didn't even begin until a week ago.

I guess Mother Nature didn't get the memo that this is California.

Me too! I usually have tomatoes by now. Love my summer tomatoes, cukes, bell peppers, etc. Nothing beats home grown.

we dont have tomatoes til mid-late july...and then by beginning of August I'm swamped and cursing them! LOL

Thought about it more and I guess it is early July when we usually get them. I'm so excited I'm getting ahead of myself. I have flowers though.

just finished canning 28 pints of diced potatoes..cost $2.49 and tax...for potatoes and about $3 for the seals..

so lets say $5.50...divided by 28 is about 20c a jar...MUCH cheaper than the 60c to 80c per store canned good.s..

Started making my bread this morning and when I got the sugar cannister off the shelf I realized I forgot to put the sugar in my sweet pickles yesterday. That explains why the recipe didn't yield as much brine as it should have. So, the brine is Mrs. Wages Bread & Butter pickle seasoning and cider vineagar.

How bad could they be?

Answer: Pretty dang bad!

welcome to my world!
I bet they will still be good, but sour pickle vs sweet.
I just stick small cukes with salt water vinegar and pickling spices into a jar and stuff it in the back of the refrigerator. I bet they will be a lot like that. sour, but good. don't worry! you can always make those rolled up beef things with the pickle in the middle.

What kind of pressure canners do you all have?
I have been wondering if I should get a 21 qt or 30 qt size. It says the 21 qt will do 7 qt jars at a time and the 30 qt will do 14 qts at a time. Is is worth it to get the bigger sized canners?
Are the All American pressure canners a good brand? Also, I was looking at the Lehman catalog online and the All American and Lehman pressure canners look and sound as if they are pretty much identical but the 30 qt Lehman's are much cheaper than the same size in the All American brand. Anyone with any experience with these?

I got a waterbath canner last year and had fun playing with that but now want to be able to can other stuff like meats and soups etc.
