What are you canning now?

I am also having storage issues this year. up under our bar is full. my pantry is full, our extra closet is almost full. I need to can up some more but I am running out of places to store it. What do you do when you run into this problem?

Wow Acre! Nothing ever stays full here!? Too many sales, too many bbq's and I gift WAY too much away. Usually we run out right after the new year and have to purchase to restock.

We live in an old house without much storage, we stash stuff under the bed, under the sofa, under the sideboard...

We have a formal living room and dining room with my grand mothers "priceless" furniture. I keep telling my wife we need to drag it all outside, burn it and turn those two rooms into giant closets.

I keep my incubator on the mahogany dining room table. Every time I look in it I think I can feel a little breeze from Mama Lizbeth spinning in her grave.

I hear that!

The house I live in now is a 700 sq. foot cabin built by my late husband and his late father. Storage is at a minimum here. At least I have a crawl space!

Canned hamburger dill pickles this morning.

Next up: we're tearing out built in cabinets in what used to be the dining room but is now an extension of the kitchen and putting in industrial style shelving units because they'll hold more.

I may have a problem, but I'm not ready to admit it.

x 3 . . .. and my mom wouldn't be caught dead doing all these things.

You would of thought I was the one raised on a farm instead of my mom.... LOL....
Add sewing to the list of things that Grandma did, mom doesn't, but I do.....

Life is so very funny - - you know? ?

My mom doesn't garden, wouldn't be caught dead touching a chicken, never canned, not into baking..........I do and love doing all these things.

X a Million. I'm 29 and this is my first year canning. All my parents and grandparents are city folk, so I don't know why I enjoy old world things so much either!

I pick at Hencles in Baldwinville. Goose berries are all but gone for the year. They're not hard to grow your own and from what I can see you just need about four bushes. Currants aren't hard either and I got most of the pink ones from one bush. I picked about 16 cups. If you've got an area along one side of the house that gets full sun you could plant them there. I'm considering putting in a row of things next year. Unless I can plant them now or in the fall. They need mulching and I've been using the cleanings from my coop to mulch around the yard.

Last fall I dug up some road Daylilies and just laid them around a tree, then covered them with chicken cleanings and they have flowers this year.

As for where to store you canning goods? Why not build a small storage shed to put it in. You could put a small Air conditioner in the side wall and set it for low if you live in a hot area. If you live in a cold area you could put the Air conditioner in the side in the summer and use one of those oil filled heaters to keep temps just above freezing. It shouldn't be to hard to maintain the temps you need.
