What are you changing about your grocery list, to help lose weight?

This year I am changing nothing. I changed it all a few years ago. Less products with high fructose corn syrup in it, all natural juices (read the labels folks), fresh produce, not canned. Low fat meats. I stopped dieting a few years back and have lost 60 lbs.

I have two grocery saboteurs called children. Keeping kid friendly food around is hard, a feeding my kids a plain chicken breast, brown rice and broccoli will make them revolt. The little on might actually like that diet, but the older one would starve to death. He's almost 13, in constant motion, and growing like a weed; he eats multiple bowls of cereal or a can of chili for an after school snack and is ready for dinner two hours later. I think starving Neanderthals probably ate slower!

I've actually have a CSA for organic veggies. I'm still getting a few tomatoes and peppers, and I got the most gorgeous purple cauliflower last week. I makes me eat more veggies.

I have one of those 13 year old creatures too.. and this is what I told him yesterday. "You may eat what I prepare and the snacks I buy or you may skip the meal and read a book while we enjoy it. There will be NO MORE eating willy nilly crapola and then complaining about a healthy balanced meal. If you aren't hungry enough to eat an apple, YOU AREN'T HUNGRY. Your father and I make the money and the meals and you are the child, we are the adults and WE decide what is bought, prepared and served and YOU WILL either eat it or go hungry without a SINGLE WORD, NOW GO CLEAN THAT ROOM AND IF I SEE YOUR EYES ROLL AT ME ONE MORE TIME... sorry, got carried away. Have we all been reading micahel pollen?

I don't know who this guy micahel pollen is, But I agree that I would not allow my kids to dictate what they will eat at my house. It's our job to make them do the things that create good health, and sound minds. We do not need to provide them with more than that. I would allow my kid to go hungry, if they argued about whats for dinner. They can always eat what was provided when they get hungry enough.

Stay away from...
#1 Highly processed foods. Try to eat as natural as possible. The more food you can grow yourself or buy from a local farmer the better. Or if you live west of the Mississippi river you make look into "Azure Standard."
#2 Carbohydrates. Pasta, bread, potatoes, cereal, corn, etc.
#3 Sugar. This one is way worse than many people realize.

And remember, NATURAL FAT IS OKAY! Whole milk, cheese, butter, and lard are way less fattening than fast food, highly processed food, sugar, and carbohydrates. I eat a LOT of dairy and still stay slender. We have three milk cows so we always have a surplus of dairy products.

Maizey, I'm already giving that same lecture to much younger children! We'll save back components of supper before putting sauce/spices in, but they eat what we eat or they go without. They tend to eat a nice big healthy breakfast the next morning.

As for me, I can't have chips, ice cream, or soda in the house. Better for all of us anyway. DH is a very healthy eater so that helps!

yep.. all the junky food got thrown out ages ago. I do keep a few corn chips and lunch box snacks but those are mostly healthy if not really healthy. All the Christmas feasting though really got us off track, as it does everyone I guess, but we are back on the band wagon now..by the way I LOVE YOUR BEAGLE!!!! Ours passed a couple of years ago,, she was such a good beagle

Its not what is not only what is only what is on your list but what you do after that meal that makes a difference. If you jump on BYC, watch TV or go to sleep after dinner all the healthy foods in the world will not help. A nice walk after a meal does wonders. Maybe a round of chores you been procrastinating on after dinner.
