WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? WHAT DID YOU JUST RECEIVE?

I'm waiting for 2 bantam Easter eggers and three assorted brown egg layers from MyPetChicken.com... They should be here Wednesday! Gahhh I'm so excited!!!!!

I don't know why this thought hadn't come to me before now.
But I was reading about you waiting on your eggs and it occurred
to me....
How do you or/they know the eggs is actually fertilized?

First timers as well, its as bad as waiting on Christmas morning.

As soon as they hatch, I will be picking up 25 Black Australorp chicks, 2 6+wks BA pullets and 1 6+wks Lavender Orpington pullet.

Oh hmm learn something new everyday lol. I have never seen or heard of that before.

It's more used if you have to put one by itself for some reason. I wanted to have something ready and thought it might help the first few that I put in the box to have something already warm to cuddle with. I'll remove it soon after and just keep it until needed.

Just my 2 cents here, but I'd be afraid to do that...why? I'm fearful that they peck at it until they got one of those little feathers loose and it got stuck in their throat and choke...aaaack!!

Chickens for Backyards. Nothing yet. I sent them an email and I am tempted to call them as today was the shipping date.
Glad you finally got your tracking. I think Backyards is a middleman, kind of like eFowl. Is that right?

My shipping showed they came out of Lebanon, MO, so I am guessing they actually are from Cackle Hatchery.

My fermented food had started bubbling this morning, so I ended up dividing it into two containers. I didn't want to risk having a mess to come home to if it kept growing! Here's the change in 24 hours.

It's a bit hard to tell, but the plastic lid is just resting on the top threads, not turned at all, and the glass lid is ajar.

Can I ask what and why you are fermenting?
The chick starter.

There are many threads on fermented feed here and on other sites/blogs. Here are a few examples: (But, in a tiny nutshell, the chickens will get more out of their food while eating less.)

There are a few different ideas on what you should do and what you shouldn't do. There are methods that don't make sense to me logically, but seem to work. There are certainly lots of very opinionated members on the threads.

I read a lot of information and will be going with what makes sense to me, what I am comfortable with, and what has testimonials from multiple people as to working. Beekissed, a member here, is one of the main contributors on the threads here. He/She does it differently and has success, but I chose not to go that route for a few personal reasons. (So, mine is water and food only, no ACV, and keep it covered with a layer of water.)

I received my babies on Tuesday. They hatched Monday and were purchased from MyPetChicken. All 12 arrived healthy and active.

White Plymouth Rock
Speckled Sussex
Rhode Island Red
Partridge Plymouth Rock
Light Brahma
Golden Laced Wyandotte
Easter Egger
Dominique
Blue Orpington
Black Jersey Giant
Austra White
Appenzeller Spitzhauben

I have been trying to determine which is which but some of them look very similar. A few I am sure of. The Light Brahma is the only one with feathers on her feet so she is easy to tell apart. The Austra White is light yellow with black spots on her back. One, which I am not sure of, has the coloration of a chipmunk and even has the puffy cheeks to match

Two of them seem to be slightly smaller and sleep more often but I figure that since they are all different breeds I really can't compare them to each other. All are eating, drinking and pooping well. A few have had pasty butt. We check them several times a day, clean off any that we notice and I do another check before bed.

I am surprised at how quiet they are! Other than happy cooing and a peep here and there, they really don't make much noise. I was worried about having the brooder set up in our bedroom (the only safe place from little hands and furry noses) but it really hasn't been an issue. At night they all spread out across the brooder and fall asleep together. Adorable!

I have been loving every minute! So happy they are finally here!
