What are your five favorite breeds and why

I looked at my list at the start. I think I have replaced buff Orpingtons with standard cochins as my number one breed currently. I still like barnevelder, Wyandotte, Easter eggers, and bantam cochins. :)

Hah, I just looked at my list and I have to say that it is wildly different now. I think the only breed that stays is the Bantam Cochin. I'd have to add Cream Brabanters straight to the top, OEGBs, Russian Orloffs, then mixed breed bantams.
I still love Easter Eggers, but I have a hard time keeping them alive. They are too curious, and adventurous for their own good. I only have one left, and she is a flighty thing, which is probably why she is still alive. All the others wander too far, jump fences, and get taken by predators.

I think that's why poultry keeping is such a great hobby. It can change and evolve over the years, so it's never the same. :) Being on BYC too, helps me watch how my hobby evolves.

Couldn't agree more. It still blows my mind how many chicken breeds are out there.
Plus other species. This year I tried some geese. Never in a million years did I think I would try those because they scared the heck out of me. Now I'm a happy goose owner. :)

:highfive: Me too!!! I have an American Buff pair that I raised. I just love them. What variety did you get?
I always thought geese were mean things, and now I just sing the song from Jurassic Park in my head (sometimes out loud) whenever I see them walking about.
