Ours is up there, but I keep a detailed budget that includes setting aside money every month for Christmas, vehicle repairs and tires, vehicle registrations, medical, clothing, winter heating, emergency fund, etc. That levels things out throughout the year so we aren't trying to scrounge up money to pay for the more infrequent things that come up.

Apt living is cheap compared to back home. Family pays more per month in Property Tax ALONE for 7 acres than I spend living in condo for school. Good thing house and land has been paid off for 60+ years.

Even a paid for home has taxes, insurance, utility bills...

My yearly taxes are $500 or 42 a month, yearly insurance is $700 or $59 a month. I think I could get down to $500 a month or less fairly easily once the house is paid off. Ours is 3 bedroom 2 bath on 1.488 acres, so not that expensive actually.

ETA: Utilities are around $125-150 average here.
