What Are Your Plans For 2021?

Electric fencing is on the books for us. We had a terrible mid-day fox issue this last spring. To repay them, we'd like to give the foxes a little something 'spark'ly for 2021!

The kids’ favorite chicken died recently, so next spring I want to get more eggs from his breeder and hatch some of his “siblings” for us to keep in his memory. Hoping for some girls this time though.

I'm planning on incubating bobwhites in 2021.

2021 will bring a new coop with step by step details and pictures, the new coop will be bigger with a brooder/isolation area in it. More and better ventilation, more and better roosting space, better nesting box area and over head storage. There will be water and electric in the coop. This will be a walk in coop for easy cleaning and easy chicken checking. All in all we are going to take all the advice given in the past to build an awesome coop for our wonderful flock.

I chose "other" since next fall I will be completely handing over both my flocks to my parents and grandparents (and selling any birds they absolutely don't want) as I head off to Mississippi State to start my 2nd year of college. I sure will miss those guys!!! Both my family and the chickens.

Yep, I've got a plan! I'm majoring in poultry science and want to specialize in poultry nutrition.

I expect a small turnover as broodies raise new small clutches to replace those flock members who move or pass on during the year, keeping the flock around 15-20, but all home bred birds this year, rather than buying hatching eggs.
