What breed is my little Misty?

The interesting thing is that she lays brown eggs. Wouldn’t this rule out olive egger?

Not necessarily. My Abby lays brown eggs from the Australorp genetics. I think the only characteristic she got from her EE mother is the grey coloring. Since we don't know for sure the parentage of Misty I can only tell you what I know about my hen. I'm not that good at genetics and it's just hard to tell what dominant or recessive genes are passed on from what parent.

The blue egg gene is dominant and only one is needed for a hen to lay blue eggs. So later if that blue egg laying hen breeds with a roo who doesn't have the blue gene or only has one of them like her, non-blue egg laying offspring can result. There are other factors for green and olive eggs, but genetics aren't my strong point either. You have a very pretty hen!

Since I hatched Abby from a green egg in the incubator that's the only reason I know that she came from an EE. My Australorp rooster was a mixed breed but he wouldn't have had anything but brown egg genes.
I find genetics fascinating but my old brain just doesn't hold onto the details like it used to!

Red earlobe rules out Andalusian. And she doesn't look like a Orpington or Jersey Giant to me. I'd say she is a crossbred. And a very pretty one, she has really great color.
