What Breed is this YellaFella?

Really? Your Wheatens pop out with that heavy of feathering and vivid green legs? . . .

Well, obviously they didn't "pop out" with all those wing feathers, but when their feathers did come in that is what they looked like... And yes, my wheatens had that heavy of feathering on their legs... I'll give you that this chick's legs are a bit different. I don't think they are "vivid green" or at least don't look like it from the picture to me, but they do seem pretty bright orange.

Either way, if the chicks came out of "very very very dark brown eggs" as Sega has said, then I can't see what else they would be besides Wheaten Marans...

Umm, I'm sure I can get a nice dark egg laying Marans hen, cover her with just about ANY breed of rooster, then sell her fertile eggs and convince the buyer they're purebred until the buyer hatches them.

Just because the eggs you received are the correct color does not mean the offspring will be correct.

Hi! Sorry to go off topic but I have to know what kind of chicken is in your pic. I've been trying to decide what breeds to get and I think I just fell in love!

Illia - you might be right and it might be a Marans hen crossed with something else, but I think there is just as good a chance that it is a wheaten marans... We were just throwing around guesses and possibilities.

Keep us posted how the chick ages Sega!

From what I understand the yellow chicks are from crossing BCM and Wheatens together and occasionally you will see a yellow chick especially if you are breeding the same line roos and hens. I think the Wade Jeane line has this problem. It's not a huge problem but you do get a Wheaten every once in a while. You need a Bev Davis Roo to breed your hens with to avoid this and do not breed the yellow chicks (Wheatens) back to FBCM's.
