Isn't it agonizing waiting on those first timers? My Australorp is a pretty consistent layer, but her eggs are like bullets. Long and slender.
My first layer was 2 leghorns @17 weeks but they're bullies, then the Plymouth barred rocks @18 1/2, then the Wyandottes & Rhode Islands@20 wks. Black copper Marans were the last @22-24th wk.
Wow, all of your breeds started laying before 24 weeks. Awesome! Mine are slower. I still have 4 not laying at 26 weeks. In time they will![]()
I couldn't believe it but my silkie laid first at 23 weeks! She's been the most faithful little egg layer, laying nearly every day. Cutest little mini eggs
The earliest bird I ever had lay was a 16 week old red sex link. Shocked me to find that egg, I wasn't expecting them from that group for another month or so! she and her sister always gave me eggs so large they wouldn't fit in the carton, but as they aged the shell quality deteriorated no matter what I fed them.
