Silkies will lay where they like. One of mine laid an egg by the waterer a couple times, wasn't a big deal since she also uses the nesting box. It's a flat board, in the corner, a foot up, in a nice, secure location. There is bedding on it. A confused pullet tried to lay eggs on it. It is a nice silkie roost, and it took me an afternoon. They have to jump over two feet to get into the nesting boxes. Why bother?!!
The pullet in question was a mutt, and had no relation to silkies. I showed her the nesting box, and now she lays in the box on the end. I just meant the anecdote as evidence of how well-bedded, large a roost it is.Silkies will lay where they like. i went to show last year and saw many amazing birdsHave you considered attending a local show and looking at the birds. Once you make your decision try to get birds from a successful breeder/show person rather than from a hatchery. Quality birds cost more initially, but cost no more to feed than hatchery quality. Good luck in your decision and showing.
that's one gorgeous birdBEN: He's good for show,View attachment 1989843 Buff O!
