I am gonna get ripped for this......RIR's. Don't mind the hens....they are pretty nice. The roosters.....had 7. They were mean to each other, and the others. The day one decided to be mean to me was his last day. I will say they had the best crow....all american real crow....was a great sound. All were rehomed or sent to freezer camp.
I have left 9 RIR hens, one cornish hen, one partridge rock hen, one Buff Orpington Outstanding Rooster (that really is making a good roo)that beat up several days in a row my Barred Rock Rooster that I moved to another run by himself and I have the Cochin....harms none, very sweet but does not want to be touched by me or any of the others...I suspect he is at the bottom of the pecking order. But his feet stay pretty clean. I will edit after tomorrow as it is supposed to rain all day.
Newest additions are five Barred Rocks....two hens and three pullets. All in quarentine for now but separate. Two hens and three pullets in two different pens. One of the hens, Lucy, is very ugly....her entire head is read....like a giant comb and wattle all run together! And she is mean, very mean to the pullets. After two days of the pullets laying crammed in a corner to try and stay away from her I made them their own pen. Now they stand up! Four weeks from now maybe they can hold their own. But thinking I will put the mean hen in the pen I made for the pullets and leave her there. Oh, and these are the girls for the Barred Rock. Cept the mean one.....
Have to add this.....that little partridge rock hen is the sweetest thing....always runs to me and watches everything I do.
One more pen is in my future if the Cochin ever decides to be a rooster....and then girls for him.
