What breed will you never have again? Me? It's...

The Nazi's used those tactics too.. It worked for them also. Gotta wonder if they got it from RIR hens.

I will NEVER have a RIR rooster.. Ever. I had two and ate both of them after one yanked half the feathers from a silkie hen's head. And a friend just shot one that attacked his baby girl. Aside from Rhode island reds I will pass on leghorns too... hens and roosters. And I really would love to find a decent brown egg production breed that doesn't act so mean as my RIR hens.. If i find some.. Maybe I'll have lots of chicken and dumplings.. Wishfull thinking..

i agree though
NEVER again will i have RIR's. any hen(or even my young roos for that matter) that happened to piss them off they would attack with intent to kill. My DD(4 yrs old) liked the RIR hens because they were easy to catch and hold, but i cant have chickens around that keep mauling any other feathered creature that gets too close. ive had to stitch up too many wounds on my other hens that were caused by them

bearded silkies , found them not the brightest and had two with wry neck. what a nuisance that was. I cured them, but, never again. they were cute and everything, but, not for me.

and

australorps. I have one, she is the biggest, nastiest hen I have, she has stink eye all the time with all the other hens. She'll grab hold of one by a wing and not let go. viscious thing. don't like her. in fact, soup seems like a good place for her.

I do have one breed I wouldn't keep again, because my personal preference is for laid back, easy going, breeds.... and that is Sumatras. A local 4-h club does a chick auction every year, and they had the chicks pre-boxed and identified to their best ability by breed. I bought what was supposed to be black wyandottes- as soon as I opened the boxes I knew they must be sumatras- black feet with yellow soles.

I sold them, but not before they got wing feathers (NO other feathers, just wing feathers) and started flying everywhere. The brooder had to practically be padlocked to keep them in. So, to sell them I took them to a show with me. A girl wanted to see one so I *barely* opened the box to peep in and one took off flying across the length of the show barn. The darn chick had nothing but wing feathers and it was flying all over the place. Although they were gorgeous, I was so glad to pass them along.

I'll stick to my gentle giants and little fluffballs, thanks.

I can say that I wouldn't have a polish again either. I just felt so sorry for the hen I had years ago, she wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed!

I can sy she was a good layer, but her lacking vision and any sense made her seem lonely.
I love my Light Brahmas better than any chicken I've ever had.

They are great here because I have plenty of room in the run, for them to hunt for bugs. They are so friendly and sweet. One of them is a scardy cat though, when I try to catch her she screams like a maniac and my neighbors will probably call 911 the next time I need to catch her.

Her sisters are all lovely. They folllow me around like I'm the Corn Flake Lady!

I love my Australorps as much as the LB's too! I'm very careful now to buy poultry that have a reputation for friendliness. I'm gonna eat the mean ones. Or send 'em packing.
One time we ordered some chicks from Murray McMurray, and for the free surprise chicks, I have no idea what they sent. Those two roosters were 3 feet tall and SsScarey! We took them to the feed store and gave them to some people there to eat. Those things were like prehistoric beasts from the past.

Needless to say, on the next order I checked the box that I did NOT want the free surprise!

Bantams.
My Mille Fleur D'Uccle is a mean flogging jerk. If he was bigger... or even had spurs, he would be a single srving of soup!

But he is a good roo to his hens, and I have him in my grow out pen.
The 2 silkie/cochins cross sisters are the "mean girls." To an Astrolorp pullet I had in with them, they were beastly. She was so scared she would startle at any noise behind her. Have you ever heard a hen squeal? They are flighty and will not even come close for treats. I am hoping they go broody in the spring though. If not... two servings of soup.

Dominiques, BRs and Bantam Lt Brahmas! Only reason I still have a Brahma roo is because I have a project going. Once I have enough hatched out he's a goner! I love my Polish, my FBCMs and my Games. The AMs are cool too. Right now I'm trying to build up Wellies and Penes (now these are some flighty birds, but I love the combs).

Leghorns. The hens are awesome layers, of course, but they just don't "do" anything for me.

I want more than just production from my birds!

I had some banty barred cochins. The hens were the sweetest things. The roosters were the very spawn of Satan. Only one roo out of that whole batch was nice and that was only because he was blind and couldn't see to try to SHRED you. The others ended up with bachelor pens. I don't know if it was the bloodline or what, but I would NEVER have another one of those roos!

Otherwise, I haven't had any that I'd say I'd avoid.
