What breeding projects are you working on or planning to work on?

A friend of mine has some that look pretty good. I traded for a couple of his splash pullets. They are currently in my blue laced red Brahma project breeding pen, if I had room for another pen I would give it serious thought, they are sharp.

Last year, I worked on Olive eggers, using an Araucana rooster over Maran hens. Now I have lots of nice pullets laying olive eggs.

This year, I am improving the muffs on my Easter Eggers.

Next year I am going to use some of my hens to produce a strain of hens that lay "GOLDEN" eggs, since I seem to need more income to finance the feed bill !!

So if any one out there has any hints on what type of rooster I should be looking for, please PM me.....

I am working with the Marans I bought from Bev Davis, a copper blue hen, black copper hen and roo. I just put my first generation pullet back in with her sire. She is a blue copper from the orignal hen. I also have several black copper and blue copper youngsters too young to evaluate yet.

I have a laying flock of production RIR that are a little over 2 years old. I finally hatched out a nice roo from this group and plan to take the nicest 4-5 hens from the main group to put with him. The chicks from this will be my replacements. I am hoping to breed them closer to type of the heritage RIR. While they will never be pure, I can try.

I also have a trio of Barred Plymoth Rock. The hens came from a breeder and the roo was from hatchery stock but is VERY nice. So I am seeing what I can do with those.

I need more pens so I can expand, however, this is what I can work with for now.

Next year, when I have a little more room, I'm going to try for silver and possibly lavender Sumatras, barred Araucanas, and possibly Partrige Spanish, all bantams. Right now I'm just doing white cochin bantams.
