What breeding projects are you working on or planning to work on?

I have several projects in the works. One of them is lavender over Light Sussex.

Well they are not from anybody they are just breeder stock in which I kept the best of the best. I breed the Black Creasted Whites and the White Creasted Blues and had them in the same pen for the winter when I wasn't selling eggs. Actually I accidently stumbled into the project and decided to go with it. I started with 25 of each and have narrowed them down to 1 to 5 ratio of the blue and 1/3 of the BCW. I have figured out who the parents were and there are enough different parental blood that I do not mind breeding them back to eachother. I did google BCB polish and couldn't find any so that's why I thought they were not available.

I have f1 easter egger X polish cross chicks in the brooder now. The plan is to breed the females back to bearded polish roosters. I want a larger bodied bird with a decent size crest, and I want them to come in all colors like the e.e. Next year if I get some golden laced polish hens I will begin my white laced red polish project,(std. size) I have a real promising f1 white laced red cornish X buff laced polish rooster ready for some golden laced hens. Also next year I will starting on a project that hopefully when it is done I will have birds that will resemble tolblunt polish. Lots going on, but having fun doing it. Glad that I have lots of space.

I am trying to breed my Cornish Cross pullets with my Colored Ranger Rooster. I'm penning then apart from my other flock and seeing about getting someone to hatch out their eggs. I can't wait to see how they turn out.

I am working on bringing the blue color into my Light Brahmas. I don't want to change the color of the whole bird - just in the tail and hackle feathers where it is black. I have a few decent chicks that I hatched out over the winter. I am using EE hens with a LB roo, and some LB hens with an Ameraucana rooster to achieve this - I don't mind the blue and green eggs if some end up with the genes for it. I do end up with nearly all with muffs and beards though - I celled really hard against that in my keeper chicks - none of them have either. I kept one little ( I think ) cockeral that is nearly 4 months old now, and two (pretty sure) pullets (3 months old) with the blue gene and proper columbian markings - no beards or muffs on any of them, but also pretty sparse foot feathering. I am hoping in a few years to have them up and going. Since I have these three that are marked blue I probably will not want to introduce any more outside genes into the mix again - I shouldn't need to since blue is dominant. They can be mated back to full Light Brahmas and still have 50% chicks with the blue markings.

I have decided to work on a Standar Black Creasted Black Polish. Im not sure why they dont yet exist, but I thought it would be pretty. I have hatched three so far and will raise them a rebreed them to make sure they breed true. I cant wait.

Sand Hill Preservation Have The all Black Polish.

I'm working on a crested EE. My plan is for them to have the pea comb on the front and a crest in the back. Hopefully I can get this done in about four generations. Right now no plans for specific colors just to get the crest looking right.


Going to scrap this ideal for now maybe in two or three years my go with it again. Have another project in mind but am keep it secret for now. Will keep posted.​

I am going to work on white laced red RIR/wyandotte hybrids as soon as I get a broody hen or an incubator. When my bantam cochins grow up, I want to try developing a BLR variety.

Yes, I am attending the APA show here in Sedalia in hopes of aquiring some new LB stock with better conformation than what I have now. If I can't find them there I am looking into some hatching eggs from nice stock. I like my Brahmas big and heavy. These crosses seem slightly better than the EE and Ameraucanas but not near the body type I was hoping for - I thought I would get somewhere closer to in the middle of both breeds, size needs a boost too. And, hopefully next gen will have much improved foot feathering. I plan to run a "normal" colored LB roo over the blue pullets and regular colored hens - I don't want any splashes - and "normal" LB hens under the young cockeral with blue coloring. I would love to find more serious LB breeders to get quality chicks, eggs or started birds from - I know I will have to boost my number of birds if I am going to hatch enough chicks to weed out the ones I do not want to breed in the future. I hatched close to around 60 over this winter and had three I wanted to keep and proceed with. From what I understand about inheritance of the beard and muff from EE's and Ameraucanas I did well to keep the ones without them even if others may have had slightly better body type. I know it will probably pop back up, especially as I breed into the F3, F4 etc generations, but I'm prepared to deal with that. No problems finding homes for any of the culls - even cockerals, much to my surprise! I also sent some of these eggs in the monthly swap - fun!
