What can I use in replace of DE?

I only use permethrin on their living quarters, and they have to be kept out of the area while it's being sprayed (according to very-comprehensive label directions).

I use Eprinex on the birds. It's a wide-spectrum parasiticide and dewormer that was developed for cattle, but seems to work well with no ill effects on chickens. You do need to reapply it within ten days to kill anything that hatched in that time.

It absorbs through their skin, so you don't have to dust them all over with it. A little goes a loooooong way.

I dilute it 1/5 with cooking oil and spray it on any patch of bare skin I can find under their wings, where their feathers are not as dense. They aren't keen about being held upside down on my lap when I do this, but they don't seem to object to the spray itself at all.
