Can someone explain what causes fart eggs?
We got the teeny tiniest one today.
It is the smallest that I have ever found in the next box
Thanks

Just from what I've read on here, it seems that it's just a random happening, and could also be the body of the new layer's way of getting used to laying eggs.

Well it is a random thing with my girls.
It never happened with my first flock but has happened twice with my second and those girls were a year old in April this year.
It just amazes me when I find those ity bitty little eggs.
When we opened the first one it was just the white, no yolk.

The ones without a yolk can be formed by a hen of any age, though it is a lot more common with pullets coming into lay. Normally a yolk starts the egg laying process, but sometimes a piece of material sloughs off from the hen's internals and triggers the eggmaking system to produce an egg without a yolk.

I don't have any idea what causes them, but I love the name!

My only guess would be that every once in a while she jumps the gun and sends something from manufacturing to packaging before it's supposed to come off the assembly line.

Thanks
Ridgerunner your explanation is very helpful

Chickens by the Sea your explanation is funny, thank for sharing it.

Imagine you start a job in a field you never worked before, you are bound to make a couple mistakes along the way til you get the hang of it. Also if you work at a job a long time you can mess up too.
