What chores do your children have?

Yep, agreed.

I should have clarified that I don't expect her to care for a horse or pony right now. I tell her that's why we have to wait until she's older -- like middle school aged-- to get one. She thinks about it all the time! I was just wondering what chores other children did. I don't want to overburden her with chores, but I do want her to be responsible -- and I wanted to see if other little children her age helped out with dishes. This mommy needs to give in and let her help with dishes. She does pretty well on her other chores.

My three year old daughter sets the table, brings dirty dishes to the dishwasher for us to put in, pick up her toys, and feeds her fish. She generally remembers to do all of the stuff too, and reminds me if I forget something.

My 18 y/o DD is still in school she graduates in June, but shes been doing chores from the very beginning. She cleans the bathroom, cleans the dog run, unloads the dishwasher, does her own laundry, her bedroom is cleaner then mine, she helps with whatever yard work, or house chores that are needed. She also gets paid for the chores, since she always likes a little money in her pocket. She also helps a disabled neighbor woman with household chores. She also helps take care of her 4 y/o brother if I need to go to work, or out when I dont feel like taking him.

My 4 y/o helps with the chickens and cleans his room & picks up his toys. He also helps feed the dogs, and wipes down the fridge and cabinets. He's a pretty good helper.

Mine feed and water the chickens, and collect eggs, help with laundry, and dishes. My daughter usually does ALOT more, and I don't even have to ask! She's Awesome!

My kids think I am Satin.

My 8 yr old Twin girls:

Clean their bedroom
Clean the living room, since it's always their stuff in there.
Pick up all of their toys
Gather all of the dirty clothes

One of my girls is a fantastic cleaner and the other one well, there really isn't any words. I have to take all of her fun stuff away just so she will do her chores.

My 14 yr old DS:
Unload and load the dishwasher
Feed and water the Australorps
Take the dogs outside for their potty breaks

My DS used to do his own laundry until I got a brand new set and I don't want him tearing it up. But, they do have to put their clothes away.

Mine cleans what she misses up. She is nine. If it is hers then she has to take care for it. She has a dog, cat , pony, and chickens or course. I do not pay her for any house work and she does her fair share. Can even cook if I need her too. She wash her own clothes, cleans her room and play room and bathroom, she does the dishes. Now in the Chicken house I pay her but she does a lot of work. She keeps all the brooder clean, feed and water and help me out in the Big Chicken house too. She is very independent can take care of herself. She is no stranger to work. But I think that help kid get ready for the real world. She loves take care of the animals that is were you will find her in the horse barn or chicken coop. I might have a vet on my hands.

DD12 has 3 dish nights a week, feeds animals, collects eggs, helps muck the coop, helps with goat hoof trimming, and crushes cans(we recycle). She also assists with supper once a week(my dish night), and keeps her bathroom and bedroom clean.

DD18 and her husband has 3 dish nights per week, cleans the yard, takes care of the rabbits, and pays a portion(2/5ths) of the bills since they are staying in our travel trailer for now. They also run various errands through the week when they aren't at school or studying. She is a homeschool senior, he is in college. If we are working outside...they are required to pitch in and help haul trees, cut wood, and tend the fires as well which happens about once a month.

DH and I do everything else. Often we all pitch in and do all of it together to give everyone a break from the redundancy. We set a time limit, and everybody works their butt off doing anything they see that needs to be cleaned, fixed, moved, etc. I love our "work days" that we do this. We work about 3-4 hours and then grill out for supper and eat on those wonderful paper plates

Keep in mind I have four kids ranging in age from just shy of 16 to just shy of 6 and they don't all do all of these everyday. We have a chore organizer that my dh built for me and I rotate the jobs among them. Some of the things they are expected to do are:

Get dressed and put away pj's
brush hair
make bed
empty dishwasher
clear table
empty garbage cans
put bags back in garbage cans
pick up toys
set table
clean bathroom
feed pets
dust furniture
vacuum
sweep
swiffer
put groceries away
help in kitchen
clean out car
clean windows
straigten shoes on shoe rack
clean up yard
keep shed tidy (usually by picking up their junk!)
help with chickens
help with weeding
grind wheat (we mill our flour and bake all our own bread)
bake bread
bake cookies
fill firewood bin outside
keep firewood holder inside full
keep kindling bin full

And whatever else I can think up!

They really aren't spending all their time working despite what the list looks like. A lot of these jobs aren't daily and with four of them and two adults to spread the chores around none of us feel overworked. The chores also depend on age and ability. Obviously I'm not going to have the 5 year old grinding wheat and baking bread! The 15 an 13 year old on the other hand can both help in that area. I also have a chore card designated "helper" for the youngest child so she has someone each week she can ask for help.

Looking at the chore list on the wall:

Quail
Rabbits
Cats
make beds
pick up toys
water garden
laundry
Dishes

The boys are 5 & 9, they get 4 chores a day. No TV or videogames untill chores are done.

My girls 9 and 11 take turns washing the dinner dishes, they have to keep their room clean, they help out with laundry and general housecleaning(vacuuming/dusting/bathrooms).

My son who is not quite 7 has to keep his room clean, he helps out with the vacuuming and dusting too. He's also my runner..."go get this, take this here", etc..

All three of them help out with the animals and gardens as I ask. The hardest part is getting them to keep their rooms clean!!!
