It's my understanding that there is no color standard for seremas, so he may not be an APA recognized color.

The silkie gene is recessive, so if you were to breed one of the silkied seremas to a smooth bird, the result would be 100% smooth feathered offspring, carrying the silkie gene. If these f2 offspring are bred together, you will get 25% silkie feathered, 50% smooth carrying the silkie gene, and 25% smooth, no silkie gene. If the f2 birds were bred back to the silkie parents, you would get 50% silkie, 50% smooth feathered, carrying the silkie gene

we have hatched probably 40 serama's and had 2 silkied show up. the latest is cute cute, the other interesting thing is that one was gray, this one is a cream color, thats one thing i love about serama's,
and when will you be sending out eggs from that handsome little man?

But your birds are absolutely gorgeous! I think the silkie gene is just another type of serama, I don't think you would breed a silkie to a serama and get pure breds.

i dont think that is correct, silkie is a gene not that the serama was crossed with a bantam silkie if thats what you mean?

I was waiting until he looks better to sell some eggs, he's going through a molt. I have a few in the bator. I also have a couple of brown/tan silkie hens to. I'm not sure what hens to breed him too, straight feathered?

there is a yahoo group called serama that is very helpful with questions if you want to check it out, i am not sure its allowed to give you the link on this site.
