The Speckled rooster was given to us... i have no idea where he came from, if he is a hatchery bird or not... He came with 3 other roosters, mostly white speckled, but we didn't need 6 roosters for the amount of Hens we have (20 hens) so we gave away the white speckled ones.. they were super tiny.. I'd assume a bantam sized bird.
I'm told that we most likely wont get definitive results from our motley crew.. since most of them do not have a true breed in them. I'll just get a jumble of colours with no real way to decipher what colour came from which sex. I've been told to get some Barred Rock hens and put them with my roosters, that way the sex linked genes will be passed on to the chicks and the results will be easier to see. Does anyone here agree? I know a lady not far from me that breeds Barred Rocks.. I can see if we could borrow a few of her hens for the experiment.
