What did you do in the garden today?

I have numerous squash and melon plants. None look like this. I did not plant it there, that's where the peppers are planted. I have a few tomato plant volunteers as well, but I know exactly what they are. We had a straw bale garden last summer that when I broke up the bales I put it in the finished compost pile. I remember what kind of tomatoes but I don't remember having any thing that looks like this. I am guessing gourd or melon. A few more weeks and I should know.

Its winter here so I don't have much going on in the garden.

Today I hoed the greenhouse and weeded. I have broccoli, cauliflower and some herbs growing in there currently.

I also planted a bunch of broccoli seedlings in a wicking bed I threw together, also in the greenhouse.

Gave everything some water.

I pulled a lot of kaikuyu grass this afternoon. It was growing up and into my porch area, consuming the fence on its way through. It grows year round here and just takes over before you know it. My chickens will have a field day once I fence off a section of the yard for them.

Ugh! We're having amateur tomato growing problems. I think part of the problem is our soil in the big bed. Next year should be better because there will be more organic matter in there. Pulled some partially ripe split ones, ones that were rotting on the bottoms, and accidentally a green one. Tossed the rotting ones, and put the rest in a paper bag.

Planning to pull my bush bean plants next week since they're petering out so I can reseed. Been hand pollinating some cantaloupe. Seems to be working, maybe. I wonder how the watermelon will fare. I'm not seeing very much pollen on the males, but maybe they're being cleaned out before I get to them.
