What did you do in the garden today?

I was out early to water the grass and feed a few things that are struggling. I let the girls into the grass today for a couple of hours while we took the dogs to the park. Now they're in the garden picking seeds off weeds for me.
I have 33 quail eggs in the incubator. We're going to convert half the garden to a space for one covey, the rest will be thanksgiving dinner with any luck, and plant veggies in the rest. Next weekend we're putting on a bamboo roof :clapand we have a finished shade cloth on the way for the west wall with hibiscus and lantana in the ground just outside as an additional wind break.
I'm currently researching plants for the quail side that will live in the desert.

Picked some of my painted mountain corn, was not dried out yet but saw some of the ends were starting to rot/mold so took all the cobs that were not green still. Perty stuff, flour corn. Planted first week of June so around 90-95 days from seed in ground. Only planted one packet and the chipmunks took half of it, planted in hills three sisters style, hills too far apart and missing a lot of plants so they didn't fertilize great, didn't develop kernels well, but perty stuff.

Well I planted my new 4x8 bed raised bed with lettuce, spinach, swiss chard, radish, and arugula. All my fall plantings are in a little late but better late than never. I think I will be ok because still hotter than heck here in the 90's with humidity. It will get to 80's this week which should lessen heat stress. Took time to get beds in. Waiting for rain urn still and have soaker hoses to add as I listen to the thunder roll now. My husband and I are trying new green envy garden soil from Ohio mulch and hope this works. I'm debating covering it with grow cloth to give everything a new start probably will by end of day. The wild birds here can be heck with my newly planted seed or the seed quality is poor. I used burpee and mountain quality seeds. We will see. Wish me luck! Hope everyone is blessed with a green thumb. I fertilized everything else and now its up to the rain gods. What does everyone else plant in the fall?
