What did you do in the garden today?

Today we found B.E.R. on our roma tomatoes. I was shocked because we have always grown tomatoes and never had this problem. I found this and thought I would share;

Blossom end rot is caused by calcium deficiency in the soil. Add some crushed up eggshells around each plant or you can buy outdated milk cheap from the grocery and water with it. We put in a good load of eggshells every fall with our chopped up leaves and compost, turn it all under, and by spring its ready to grow.

I harvested collards for the rabbits, pulled crab hrass for the goats, and plucked iffy looking leaves from the maters for the turkeys. Then I watered in my new sweet potatoes and replanted the beans the armadillo dug up last night in its search for bugs. Its hard to get mad at an animal who really only eats the bugs, I just wish they'd dig a little more selectively.

I have tried like crazy to prevent diseases. Only time will tell, but so far no problems. I did start my tomatoes from seeds, so I hope that will help.

I found BER on my san Marzano paste tomato today too. Apparently paste tomatoes may be more susceptible to BER. I would agree with that theory because my 6 other tomatoes are in the same soil and on the same watering system. They do not show symptoms at this time.

They look as if they haven't done a thing. One on the ground looks like the lookout chicken. Thought I would share a few pictures of my bed garden. First year I have attempted this and will be adding more beds next year. Tomato bushes Loaded with tomatoes, can't wait for them to ripen! Yellow squash..fixing to blossom Cucumbers...starting to run now. These are my pole lima bean. They have just started running. I have used tobacco sticks and jute for all my trellis.
I see that your squash is in raised beds.... Do you still have problems with squash bugs? Nice beds :)

Put on my boots and checked the garden . Pulled some weeds . Have a break from the rain until afternoon tomorrow . Sugar snap peas are setting pods . Ate a few right off the vine . More like snow peas now . In about a week I will be picking some .
