Today we found B.E.R. on our roma tomatoes. I was shocked because we have always grown tomatoes and never had this problem. I found this and thought I would share;

Blossom end rot is caused by calcium deficiency in the soil. Add some crushed up eggshells around each plant or you can buy outdated milk cheap from the grocery and water with it. We put in a good load of eggshells every fall with our chopped up leaves and compost, turn it all under, and by spring its ready to grow.
I harvested collards for the rabbits, pulled crab hrass for the goats, and plucked iffy looking leaves from the maters for the turkeys. Then I watered in my new sweet potatoes and replanted the beans the armadillo dug up last night in its search for bugs. Its hard to get mad at an animal who really only eats the bugs, I just wish they'd dig a little more selectively.
