What did you do in the garden today?

First try at tarter Sauce took the recipe off the web added cloves called for sweet pickle I like so added dill pickle also
Tartar Sauce

1/4 cup pickles dill and sweet
4 tbsp yellow Mustard
4 tbsp Dijon
3 tbsp Honey
1 cup Mayo
3 tblsp Dill
2 tsp ground Cloves

Make at least 3 hours before serving.
I used to go a grill for lunch where the cook would whip up tartar sauce on the spot. He mixed mayo, yellow mustard and relish. I think that was it. People ate it up.

Good evening gardeners. I watered the lemon tree today and skipped everything else. The coops have been scrubbed and sanitized; we installed a roost in the mini coop. @Wee Farmer Sarah I used your idea and stapled a clear, heavy duty shower curtain to the open front, covered in hardware cloth only, as this coop wasn't designed with winter or cool temps in mind. It works like a charm! I moved a shade hut back to the big yard and we attached a gravity feeder to it so now we have 3 out and the pigeons can't eat from them :yesss:. We're supposed to get a cool snap with highs in the mid 50s one day this week, but back to the mid 70s by next weekend. I managed to stay on schedule with things this weekend so I can get the coops whitewashed on Thursday, then all that's left is better screens for the mini coop in summer and new fronts for both coops by next winter. Take care all.

I'd love to see your gravity feeder if you would.... and or photos of all. :D Thanks!!!

I realized today that theres some smelly spots in the yard. It sends that our wet weather between recent rain and snow melt from today's warmer weather have saturated the soil. Now there's squishy spots in low areas and the leaves that are left from fall are just rotting in these wet areas. The duck run is just mud and smells a bit thanks to the poop that I am sure is fitting in the mud. Normally, the ground is drier, but it's just saturated right now so the water has nowhere to go. The chicken/turkey run is safe thanks to the layer of mulch that is composting nicely, creating a pprous floor tgat allows water to Dyson to the dirt below. Its a bit squishy, but not smelly and no puddles.

I almost forgot to post my update on the cherry bushes. The Jan cherry is blooming right in my kitchen. The Joel cherry is a bit behind, but looks like it's growing leaves and the start of flower buds. I imagine it will be blooming in less than a week as well.

Here's what I have on my phone right now, I'll see if I can find a close up. A link to the instructions for the basics is in my coop article. These feeders have modifications to keep flying rats (pigeons) out during the day and rats out at night.Height of the feeder is important as well.

Good morning all. Glad the shower curtain worked out for you @igorsMistress. They are a lot heavier and easier to work with than heavy plastic film. I need to start on the plans for building a brooder / grow out pen addition to my coop. I want to get that completed before ordering new chicks. I should be able to get it done in March as long as we don't get any heavy snow. I should be able to get the new raised garden bed frame done as well. This month I'm going to focus on the fruit trees and getting them pruned and fenced in. The weather has moderated to more normal, seasonal temperatures and I am happy about that. Perhaps I can spread the last pallet of stove pellets out. Have a great day everyone.
