What did you do in the garden today?

When I fed the horses this morning I heard barking in the area the trap was set. The chickens had eaten the cat food within hours of being set the other day. I planned on opening another can of cat food in the eve so as to have a better chance of attracting dogs b4 chickens but DH has been on horse duty for the last few days. LOVE his retirement... ;) today. So here she is, young and pregnant. The call to KHS has already been made. View attachment 2015375View attachment 2015373
Note the feathers at bottom of this photo :(
I am glad you caught her. Do you think they will let her have her puppies and then hopefully find homes for them? I hope so. But at least there is 1 less dog running loose and x number of puppies growing feral.

Edited to add: Bummer! I just caught up on the posts and saw that she got away. Darn!

I have been doing this before the term was invented :thumbsup
I also like to RE-PURPOSE,, My chicken coop was a Lil Tykes playhouse in a previews lifetime.

We were going to do that too, but we couldn't figure out how to make it secure enough! So now it just sits in one of the chicken yards and provides a dry place for a dust bath when it is raining. :lau

If only thre really did catch her. Check out the post right before yours. :barnie

I actually had some daylight left when I got home from work today!!!
I went out to check on the garden. The parsley is still growing!
So is the rye grass that I planted as green manure. I pulled some of it. I am concerned that it will go to seed when I'm not paying attention. :gigBut so far it doesn't look like it is trying to. I also just ripped some of the blades of grass off and left them in the garden. The garden is VERY soggy due to all the rain and melted snow that we have had over the past few weeks.
My Mom is getting transported back to her assisted living place tomorrow except that she will be going to the rehab side first until she builds her strength and walking ability back up.

Sunday it is supposed to be 60 and sunny!! Of course, I'll be working, but other people can be outside enjoying it!

It's just very sad looking. She was likely somebody's pet that they just dumped.
that is usually the story around here when people are forced to move in the first of the month. Or probably just decide to move they bring their pets out to the country such a natural thing. My area is incredibly bad for dumped dogs and the dogs kill all the feral cats so we don't have any of those.

It is terribly sad to see a pet tossed out like trash after the hard work and reality of pet "ownership" sinks in. But to play a bit of the devil's advocate here... :p 😬🤪
I see and personally have myself become a better pet owner as I have grown. We can't give away what we don't have and we want everything.
Now-a-days we have stores specific to pets. Our sports authority had closed a few years back but Pet Co is still here and doing well. Our population is (I think) 53,000 island wide and we even have a pet health food store. Products like flea control and vacs have become better with more availability. I feel (in the big picture) pets and people are living a better quality life from years ago. You never used to see a pet riding inside a nice car- now 5 out of 10 cars have a clean and well groomed, nice collared pup riding shotgun and some with cute outfits on. Grown up, responsible people are treating pets like their children and I think that is a great thing.
HERE our biggest offenders are people w/ a drinking and drugging lifestyle and bad priorities and also people who's parents couldn't be a better example. Again, you can't give away what you don't have. We do well with a well funded HS to deal with our mess until people can be better... people. HS won't adopt out unless the animal is spayed or neutered. Eventually we will be able to be better than we are now.

Back to the garden...
Yesterday I thinned out the Areca palms and Plumbago from aunties patio and cleaned up nicely for her, the eve before I trimmed her mega hedge of Naupaka, Song of India and Plumbago. I loaded a full trailer again and was ready for the green waste this morning but my sweet DH took it in for me. Yippee!!! :jumpy:yaI also FINALLY weed whacked some problem areas in aunties front yard and only have a little fence line and patio work to do. Piece of cake (touch wood).
The cold front that I was hoping for pretty much dissipated and left us with only high clouds and temps in the 80's. We have a stronger one approaching that will hopefully give us some wet weather Wednesday. I will turn on the well water pump for the first time in months and after pressurizing to water our lawn etc, it's looking a bit dry.
My Zucchini is tossing out it's first male buds, growing slower than expected along with the lettuce and arugula seedlings. The good news is my older lettuce and arugula is beefing up and tomato is blooming pretty good too. Future is looking bright.
I hope to have enough potting soil to pot up my Anthuriums who look like they could use some love and I need to find a good place to plant the xmas present hibiscus from my future DIL. It looks sad in a pot on my Lanai.
I will (electricity went out and just came back on) start prepping lanai this week. I can't avoid it any longer :p

Happy Saturday all!!! :frow
