What did you do in the garden today?

Good afternoon gardeners. It has been a very busy day but we got much accomplished!
We went from this

I did water the grass frame and the potted seeds. Didn't see any new sprouts this morning. I'm pooped! Have a great night all.

Back to the garden...
Yesterday I thinned out the Areca palms and Plumbago from aunties patio and cleaned up nicely for her, the eve before I trimmed her mega hedge of Naupaka, Song of India and Plumbago. I loaded a full trailer again and was ready for the green waste this morning but my sweet DH took it in for me. Yippee!!! :jumpy:yaI also FINALLY weed whacked some problem areas in aunties front yard and only have a little fence line and patio work to do. Piece of cake (touch wood).
The cold front that I was hoping for pretty much dissipated and left us with only high clouds and temps in the 80's. We have a stronger one approaching that will hopefully give us some wet weather Wednesday. I will turn on the well water pump for the first time in months and after pressurizing to water our lawn etc, it's looking a bit dry.
My Zucchini is tossing out it's first male buds, growing slower than expected along with the lettuce and arugula seedlings. The good news is my older lettuce and arugula is beefing up and tomato is blooming pretty good too. Future is looking bright.
I hope to have enough potting soil to pot up my Anthuriums who look like they could use some love and I need to find a good place to plant the xmas present hibiscus from my future DIL. It looks sad in a pot on my Lanai.
I will (electricity went out and just came back on) start prepping lanai this week. I can't avoid it any longer :p

Happy Saturday all!!! :frow
I can't imagine arugula being slow to grow anywhere on this Earth they call it rocket salad for a reason 😂

It was 37F it today at the high, but I still got out there and moved a pile of compost in our 3 bin system from the 1st to the 2nd bin, combining it with what was already in bin 2 for a full heaping cubic yard of compost-in-progress in bin 2. I then dumped a wheelbarrow of chicken and turkey poop into the 1st bin along with a bit of the coop bedding.
I did a deep clean in the coop today too, which is what led to the compost activity.

Good morning gardeners. Happy Ground Hog Day! And good news, the fat little rodent didn't see his shadow. Yay! Early Spring. Yesterday's temps were a bit milder but it was 39F and damp so not a fun day to be outside. I went to the Job Lot store and got nearly all the seeds on my list. The Roma tomato and green bean seeds are both heirloom varieties so if they do well this year I can save seeds from them. There weren't any asparagus seeds but I found okra seeds. That is one vegetable that is hard to find around here. I decided against ordering all the seeds from Gurneys. Even with the great prices, the shipping cost negated any savings. I did order 2 lingonberry plants and a little orange tree from them. The coop looks great @igorsMistress. I was hoping to convert the bachelor pad into a brooder and grow out pen to add new chicks, however, the big chickens have been spending a lot of time in there lately. It's a little weird. The other day I went to check on them and all 6 were just standing in the bachelor pad. Yesterday they were all roosting in the afternoon on the roosts in the run. Since they seemed to be having so much fun with that, I think I'll just have to build an addition and keep them out of there altogether. Good to hear your mother is making progress @karenerwin. Have a great day everyone.

Never heard that, but... YES! That sounds about right   !!! I am just so thrilled to not be dealing with heat stress right now. My chickens are healthy and happy, tiny garden is not bolting or bugging... and I am not getting some nasty heat rash or sweating in the shade. The cold front that dissipated b4 hitting us did managed to give us some remnant moisture yesterday afternoon. Waialeale was clocked at 4.02". We of course, after I put sprinklers out, got a few drizzles but our temps dropped to 63 last night and today's highs are expected to be in the high 70's to low 80's. Perfect!! Another bigger, windier, fast moving cold front is headed our way and will reach us on Tuesday. May finally have to put a blanket on the bed .

My little Bantam has gone broody again. So I slipped some Brahma, Orp and BR eggs under her. Maybe I can handle that mix with Mr Sancho the wild roo. Any ways... Jazzie gets dead set on being a mom and is a good one but I'll may have to pull the chicks asap as she has attacked them in the past when I replaced her eggs w/ another's. May have been the accelerated hatch time though. These are yesterday's eggs and ot to give her the long sit she seeks.

Well, happy SB day folks. I'm going to skip out on the game and probably head to town and pick up feed while everyone is home watching. Have an awesome day, stay safe and aloha all!!!
