What did you do in the garden today?

Aloha all! Wow too many posts for me to catch up on now. I got alerted about chicken proofing a garden but never found the post and realized I am waaaay behind.

So, to answer the chicken vs garden I did see @BReeder! s post and thought it spot on. I myself use PVC because it was cheap and easy. I have a small back yard garden. It works wonderfully... is that a word??? It is on the garden thread!!!

As Blossom is happy to model, it works at keeping her out and has so far stood up to the 4 large breed chicken stress test w/o caving. It is 1/2 PVC plus corners cut to size and hard plastic fencing DH got for free and zip ties. I did lids and they work great. My bigger boxes have doors.

I have been able to enjoy eating what I grow again though it is not as pretty and charming and a tiny bit more work than before.

Well, I had plans to plant more of the strawberry roots and to move the cherry bushes, but when I went outside I discovered that it is cold and raining! 😞
That did not stop me from butchering one of the spare roosters ( much to his disappointment, I'm sure). Tomorrow is supposed to be 64 and sunny but not until I'm supposed to head into work. 🙃 Oh well, maybe they won't need me to come in. It is my overtime shift.

Edited to add: Also found out that my niece's girlfriend is presumed positive for covid-19. She is a medical student in New York. Several of her classmates have tested positive. They will okay a test for her but she has to drive herself there and they don't have a car. They either walk or take public transportation. She isn't about to take public transportation to go get tested!!
There is a hospital within walking distance if she gets bad ( she actually worked there during med school). She graduates this year. They told her they expect it to be a mild case for her. :fl
Oh gosh, so sorry. Man this thing is getting real. I hope she fairs well. Keep us posted if you can.
Rumor has it, we may have a hotel/ quarantine/recovery a few miles down the road. Our island has only 5-6 cases I think but no tests have come back for the 100++ people who were tested yet... :(
I'm still stocked enough for a few months for us and the animals if we conserve. I'm totally good with riding this thing out as long as possible at home. It sounds like a dreadful flu.

I'm grateful today's technology lets us all communicate, warn, give advice so easily. Not like b4 when these things happened.
Stay well all.

Good morning gardeners. I hope you are all well. It's nice to hear from you @TropicalBabies. No gardening yesterday. I'm waiting for the snow to melt. LOL! However, big excitement. When I went into the garage to get another bag of stove pellets I noticed that my fig tree is budding and starting to push out some leaves. I think it's time to roll it outside and soak up some UV rays. My existing plant seedlings are standing tall this morning and some are starting to develop their secondary leaves. I want to wait until they do have the secondary leaves before putting them in a larger pot. Also, finally the bell pepper seeds are germinating and starting to push through the soil. The snow melted out of my driveway and I was able to make a break for "Senior Shopping Hour" at the nearby grocery store. I don't normally buy a lot there because their prices and their customer service normally stinks. I suspect they aren't cleaning the store like they used to because I always have a reaction to their cleaning products when I go in there. No reaction today. That concerns me. But it is what it is. The only paper available were the cheap store brand paper towels. I grabbed 2 rolls. I still have TP, so I can use these for my allergy nose and napkins and leave the septic safe TP on hand for what it is designed for. I was able to get juice, yogurt, coffee creamer, garbage bags and pork chops. Oooh, and bacon! I was amazed that there was absolutely no flour except gluten free products and cake mixes. OMG I never knew that many people in my area actually bake. Back to gardening now. It will likely be several days before I can resume filling the new garden bed since the ground is super soggy. I will try to get the plastic up on the hoop garden. The drainage in the main garden area is very good so I shouldn't get stuck in mud while working in there. Have a great day every.

@jerryse praying everything turns out fine for your family!! Keep us posted.🙏
Daughter is freaking out and sure she is gonna die . I think they will test negative . Her husband was directly exposed so she is second hand exposed . He is a traveling respiratory therapist and gone on assignment a lot .

Ridiculously foggy again here this morning. Again. Did I say Again?

Hopefully the sun blazes through early enough to get our temps up before sunset, like last night.

Temps in the 50s means OPEN WINDOWS (last night someone decided to burn, so coughing all night and running like a faucet this morning.) Nothing will wake you up faster than the smell of smoke. So ya, I was awake all night. I should have gotten up and done sewing, but I figured that would just wake me up more.

Windows are open, and there's a Meadow Lark out the window on the deck railing, looking for a woman, that will NOT shut up! It's WONDERFUL! LOL!. Just the sound of all the clocks ticking in the house, keys clicking, and Morty the Meadowlark going at it. Teeee heeeee.

Mine would have gotten the wire cutters out already and would be sitting in the middle of the lettuce patch.

You know that's where chicks come from right?
A big chicken sits on that mesh and a bigger one shoves her through and 12 little chicks pop through the mesh and start eating the lettuce. I saw it on a cartoon once.
