What did you do in the garden today?

Good morning gardeners. Thank you so much for the ACV making video @Compost King. I've thought about learning how to do that. It calms my inner "prepper" urge. It seems only logical @Battles house that we would talk about food, we grow it so we can eat it. I have mixed feelings about the frost coming so early this year. However, I can't complain because it sure did calm the ragweed pollen down. This past summer was so hot I think it was good to get that little nudge from Mother Nature to remind us to get ready for winter. I'm still getting caught up on my regular chores and projects, that putting the garden to bed can and will have to wait. The temps have gone back to late summer / early Autumn so it might keep the growing season going for another couple of weeks. I managed to get the front yard mowed yesterday as well as weeding out some the mulched areas. Still need to do some weed whacking. My hydrangea did not bloom again this year so I need to plan on pulling it out and just rejuvenate that garden bed with some younger plants. Still need to find time to plant the bulbs and BES I bought the other day. Nice set up you have there @littledog. My basil did miserably this year. Oh well, there's always next year. It's good to hear from you @karenerwin. I'm glad you are taking some time for fun things. Self care is so important during times of high stress. I hope you catch a lot of fish. Have a great day everyone and happy harvesting.

It has never bloomed since I moved on here. I fed it with something that was supposed to make it bloom, but it didn’t work. It needs to go.
I had 2 hydrangeas, exactly the same story - they didn't flower the first 2 years I was here so I was going to rip them out. Buuuut, they flowered this year! I didn't do anything to them so I have no clue. :idunno I'm glad you got your Black Eyed Susans!

Apple trees from an expensive online/real world nursery are barely hanging on, despite perfect soil, fertilizing, and their own drip irrigation.

Turns out they only promise their good until July 1. WTH?!?! UGH. NEVER again. I paid extra for 6 foot trees and not one was over 3 feet tall. They argue that roots count in the height measurement. Again...WTH?!

Had three drop dead totally, and 3 more I trimmed 6 inches off the top. EVERY tree was lopped off at the top BY THEM to fit them in a short box. EVERY tree in the new orchard is dying from this cut DOWN. It's insane.

I purchased 3 locally today to replace the totally dead ones. I'll watch the rest of the new orchard next spring and see if any more need done.

Feel like $460 down the drain. Nothing out there is more than 24 inches tall now.

I paid for larger trees as they fare better against the deer. ARGH. So annoyed.

Good afternoon gardeners. @penny1960 I think @WthrLady mentioned she just covers tomatoes with a towel or blanket, might be easier than wrapping each one. Just a thought. I sold all seven of the youngest chicks today, risked life and limb getting the three away from the broody too! Holy hell you’d think the world was coming to an end. So glad they’re gone, the three new gals sure did change things and I’m just not in the mood for chicks right now. Going to get the AC cockerel on Craigslist and my sons farm page and see if we can find him a new home also. Then I’ll be set. The new gals haven’t missed a day of laying even with the move to my place, that sort of surprises me. The Nn girls are laying but Cuckoo is freeloading. I shouldn’t say that, she has been an excellent mama and babysitter. Not much happening in the garden right now, still just maintaining what’s here and trying not to forget to turn off the water...I forgot the other night and my kid turned it off after a few hours so the water bill shouldn’t break the bank but it’s gonna hurt. That’s about it I suppose. Have a good night all!
