What did you do in the garden today?

NO GRAIN MILL!?!?!??! AHHHHHHHH! Considering fixing that?
Corn still needs dried to a certain percentage for storage whole, even as popcorn. If it isn't maintained it can get too dry to pop or too wet and it spoils.

We like growing sorghum. What I don't use I feed to the hens, the stalks go to the cattle, or can be crushed and syrup collected and boiled down for sweetener. Our's pushes 10 feet tall.

No matter what you end up planting, there is security and stability in MASS planting. Each plant acts as a windbreak and support for others. Which is why you usually see home gardens with corn planted in blocks not just a couple of long rows. ( I can't read your plan on my phone screen.)

My sweet corn is two rows back to back rather than blocks. This is just corn, the three sisters is in another section in mounds. In total the area for sweet corn is 2ft wide just but 10ft long. I was thinking of planting double rows in a staggered fashion.

I think you'd be better off blocking that up. You'll have to thin your 3 plants per mound down to one any way. And once they're up, they don't like their roots disturbed. Corn needs more space than people think it does. Rows are more than 2 feet apart and plants are at least 12 inches if not more apart.

I did 12" plants in rows 2ft apart two years ago and the amount of space was excessive. I may do a block though. I could rearrange the corn and the rows of cucumber so that there's a block of corn behind several shorter rows of cucumber. Thanks for the tip.

Hi from cold UK🥶
Today hubby and I were in the garden, I changed chookies bedding and sorted their best boxes out
Washed down the perches and surfaces in their ‘play area’ and gave them a new pile of straw to jump on
Are my 7 girlies grateful? Well still getting 6-7 eggs a day so that’s their way of saying thank you👍
Because of the uk avian alert they are still in ‘lockdown’ and as their pen was not built to keep them penned in 24/7 it’s been a challenge for the girls and me!
Lots to do but still squabbles break out particularly mean dominate hen bullies girly who is lowest in the 7 ☹️

A head of lettuce or cabbage is fun, especially if you hang it. You can also make a flock block with whatever you have on hand.
