What did you do in the garden today?

Its been wet and rainy last night through now. But, seems to be done for the day. Maybe some sprinkles.

No garden work today - wet/rainy, and have a busy afternoon and evening.

Am supposed to receive my four fruit trees today ! ! ! 2 PLUM (Stanley, and Green Gage), and 2 APRICOT (Orange Red and Goldrich). Wont plant them for a few days, so they will be unpacked and rest in the barn.

Hey anyone see @karenerwin around?

My allergies kicked in bad yesterday, I'm gonna say, because I was bragging how good my allergies have been this spring. :gig

I grabbed a couple pics between rain drops.

@NewBoots this is my critter/bug waterer from the elephant ear. I just dragged it out for the season.

We got a BRIEF break in the rain so I went down to the garden to poke around. The new rain gauge I bought says 3.5"! And we still have around another 12 hours of rain coming through.... Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining too much. Our pond was SUPER low. Almost like it looks during the hottest part of the summer. I have been very concerned about the lack of rain this spring.... Of course, I desperately NEED a couple of days without rain so I can spray for the weeds/buttercup! I also want to reseed more bermuda in the pasture..... Can't seem to get a break where everything lines up in a way that fits my work schedule! Grrr....

Going to TRY to spray for weeds tomorrow. I tried to spray last week and the rain came in early so it washed away. DH was mad at me that he spent $40 on 2 4-D for nothing. He said if I spray tomorrow and it gets washed away again, he's going to throw a tantrum. ☺️ There's a chance for rain Saturday night and definite rain coming on Sunday. So let's HOPE I can get 24 hours in edgewise between Friday - Saturday to spray and it actually WORK this time!

Black& Decker make pretty good products that are durable and user friendly.
Today is shopping day so I'll have a look around town for that one. I was looking at a B&D model on line but if I can get it in town, even better.
. DH still shakes his head when we talk about how I over seeded the whole back lawn with clover, unbeknownst to him at the time. :gig
That was the very first thing DP planted once we'd moved into this house and it's worked out great. The clover fills in the bare spots rather than a ton of weeds and mowed I give it to the chickens, cut by hand the rabbits get it. In fact I've just started making compost tea with the really tall stuff that grew out in front of the house (cheap wildflower mix).
It's a Hinnomaki red. I did not know they put out runners.
That's the one I bought too, and a neighbor gifted me with and unknown variety from thinning out a clump. We'll see how it goes and if it's the same. The goose berries in the store are always pale green so that should give me some clue.

Shopping day today so I won't get much gardening done till this afternoon. I've got to dig a cage out of the garage/barn to break a broody Swedish Flower Hen. She is such a dork. Oh and here's a wild geranium we have growing in the rocks out back:

It's considered a weed but we're keeping it.

Sueby posted her blueberries and it is making me jealous.... 🤭 I'm hoping to get my first crop next summer. I have 7 blueberry bushes right now. Two of them will be 3 yrs old by next summer. The others will be 2 yrs old. Broke my heart to pull the flowers off this spring.... Fresh blueberries is one thing I miss about living up north. You can get them down here too, but I like fresh picked and there isn't anywhere relatively close for me to go do that.

Blueberry strains I've planted:
1 Bluecrop
1 Blue Sunshine
1 Climax
1 Premier Rabbiteye
1 Titan Rabbiteye
2 Pink Lemonade

So excited to taste them all!

Here is another bit of info . I do a little plant breeding and try different things . Here are some raspberries seeds sprouting . Difficult to germinate as they need a acid treatment then warm stratification then cold stratification . This imitates a bird pooing seeds in summer then going through winter . Um a large mammal works also . Me

Yes, I set up grow lights. I have a 5-tier bakers rack and 48" LED grow lights. I initially had two lights hanging over each shelf. I rearranged the lights so there's three lights on two shelves and just two lights on a third. Next year I'll get four more lights so I can put a third one on the third shelf and three on the fourth shelf. My lights hang from chains and S hooks. This allows me to easily adjust the height of the lights as needed. Next year I hope to add some reflective material around the rack to improve light efficiency. The setup has worked well though so far.
Thank you so much, sounds like a great set up . Great description too sounds like I'll be happy with lights. I ordered heat mats and grow lights for next spring. Maybe next year I'll order more lights. I'm pretty small scale hereI just have a backyard garden. I'm finding it harder to find my favorite veggies year after year. Plus they're are so many cool ones online I can't wait to try. I al least found some amish paste plants in a park. Most years it's only big boy and beefsteak! I bought seeds from Ukraine and can't wait to try them to see which is best ...taste , producers, etc. My plants have overtaken the house and hubby is tired of seeing them. Wait till I spend all summer outside and then CANNING.! He just retired it's a learning curve :he :wootha ha plus no gardeners in his family! He's got a lot to learn! Oh my!
