There is nothing like home made bone broth, but I agree with your DH, it doesn't smell great. I've thought about simmering it on the grill burner outside instead of in the house...
Dear Wife is from the Philippines. She can cook some really pungent native dishes, especially if they involve using patis, a fish sauce of the Philippines. I think you have to grow up with that stuff to appreciate it - if you know what I mean. Even after being married for 30+ years, there are a number of native dishes that I cannot stand to eat, or smell.
To make a long story short, I built a new deck out back off our kitchen and Dear Wife is happy to cook her more "native" dishes outside during our non-winter months. Happy wife, happy life, the new deck was worth every penny.
BTW, Dear Wife is an excellent cook and I just love almost everything she prepares for us. But she is also smart enough to know that some dishes are too "native" for my delicate American stomach. Anyone on this forum want to eat pig's guts cooked in blood? Smells as good as described.
