What did you do in the garden today?

I have absolutely zero creativity, I cannot draw, sew or knit. I have no appreciation for good art, most of it makes no sense to me. I thought the Sistine Chapel was tacky & I made it thru the National Gallery in London in 20 minutes & never have a need to go back.:gig

But I can bake cakes! My best friends wedding cake:

I do appreciate those that have artistic ability for sure though. I wish I could make quilts. I've always wanted to try. But I'm too blind in my old age to learn now, lol.

that makes 2 of us except I don't bake. that's why I like gardening. I put a seed and it becomes a beautiful miracle I enjoy. I do like watching paintings, especially of nature and animals.

I watered today, but didn't do any other work outside. It was a heavy duty indoor chore day instead, and since that got combined with a toddler determined to throw a ton of tantrums because I was busy... I'm beat.

More garlic are coming up after our flirt with freezing temps over the weekend. Nothing that was already up died. Frost cloth is doing its thing. I'm still waiting for signs of life in the most recently planted garden bed. Leeks, mustard greens, cabbage, and rutabaga are no shows so far, but it's early still.

My dad said we had a pipe burst in the well house... buuuuut, I dunno. It wasn't THAT cold. Plus once it was fixed I had more water pressure than I've had in weeks. I think it's been leaking since before the cold front came through. However, if barely hitting 33 for an hour burst a pipe that freaking easy, we've got some work to do. I've never seen a pipe burst above 25F before.

Got a freeze in the forecast for Thursday. Thursday is a long way off yet though...

Goodnight all, see you tomorrow.

@WthrLady I inherited all of my grandmothers cake baking things when she passed. I certainly got my love of baking from her. I bet you made beautiful cakes, everything I've seen of yours is beautiful, you're very talented.

Morning all. Cold out there today! I'm guessing with this cold spell I'll be able to cover the strawberries in the next couple days. I am not looking forward to going out there to mix up meds for the littles. I had to break down & buy eggs. 10 chickens & I had to buy. Little freeloaders. I think I need more chickens. 🤭

Caught a chippie under the bathtub with a mouse trap! I wouldn't have imagined a snap trap would kill a chippie. I'm sick of little critters destroying my stuff. My neighbors had a mouse chew a PEX line in the 2nd story bath - flooded the house while they were sleeping. Who knew a mouse would chew PEX? I guess if one chewed my gas tank all bets are off.

Place where I grew up had so many dang squirrels they chewed the aluminum wire off the chain link fence top bar and made several sections sag and slump. It was a bad pecan year and they needed a way to file their teeth. That was also the year they stashed mushrooms in the pine trees to dry, then ate them and were tripping out. Weirdest dang thing, but funny too. Had one fall out of the tree, hit the ground, lay there for a bit, then start twitching and shoot back up the tree to his mushrooms again. Another was just turning flips against the base of a tree trunk for a good five minutes.

When my last chickens stopped laying about this time of year, I went out there and pulled a Bubba. Started talking about fried chicken, seared chicken, roast chicken, chicken salad, chicken and dumplings, chicken legs, chicken wings... You get the idea. I think I scared them back into laying... My Buff Orpingtons were the only birds I had that laid through winter reliably though.

Good morning all. Winter is definitely descending on us now. It was 25F when I crawled out of bed. Still need to get the southern side of the chicken runs wrapped soon. There's a threat of snow on Friday, but other than that it's just cold. I'm hoping the wind dies down later so I can finish moving the last little pile of leaves into the garden beds. I also want to scrape the composted chicken poo from the run and get it into the garden as well. That and cleaning the gutter on the back side of the house is about all I have left of outdoor chores for the season. When you mentioned rodents chewing on your gas lines @Sueby it reminded me of the eco-friendly paint they now use on newer vehicles. The paint is soy based and mice love it. They chowed down on my previous automobile and caused several thousands of dollars of repair work. Fortunately, my auto insurance covered it. I try to remember to put fresh rodent poison in the garage from time to time.

AH! My whole house is PEX! That's scary!

Thanks Sue :) Someday I'll dig out picts and entertain (or bore) everyone.

City errand and market day, but better today than tomorrow.

@Sueby did a quick photo search on my google, which only goes back so far. My hands ACHE looking at these. Most of my cakes are prior to digital camera and internet storage.
For a giggle.
