What did you do in the garden today?

Well I'm two weeks early for seed starting, but DS kept asking if he could plant seeds while I was getting the seed starter rack in order. We ended up sowing 92 starts.
That's all the tomatoes, bell and jalapeño peppers, and eggplant. We would have sowed a long sweet pepper too, but apparently I didn't buy those seeds. I need to get some corno di toro or something similar soon.

I should... I don't have them though. And the ones they sell at stores for dish washing never fit my hands. I swear, manufacturers and retailers clearly assume the only people washing with gloves are dainty women. I had a box of latex gloves that would work to keep my hands from pruning, but I cannot find them.
Go to the hardware store and buy chemical gloves. Theyre usually black and come midway up the arm.

Good morning gardeners. I guess climate is a big factor with the thermostat settings. My pellet stove keeps the house relatively warm enough for me but it's set to no more than 68F in the sunroom. The rest of the house will remain about 62 to 63F which is plenty warm for me. I set the thermostat on my base board heaters to 56F overnight. It rarely gets that low with the pellet stove running. I run humidifiers to keep the humidity level up so the dry air doesn't cause any colds or sinus infections. I'm accustomed to the cooler temps and start sweating at 70F. The furnace hasn't kicked on for heat in 3 days now. It only has come on to heat hot water. We're getting quite the layer of ice here now. It's so thick it looks like a layer of snow but it's really accumulated sleet. Fornately it's not sticking to the power lines yet. I checked Jungs website out and they actually have a nice selection of seed potatoes. I'll be ordering some very shortly. I'm thinking of planting a 10 foot row of white and another 10 foot row of red potatoes with leeks and carrots in between. I've not been disappointed by any of my previous purchases from them so I'm excited to see how well these do compared with the sorry lot of seed potatoes I got from Gurneys last year. I wanted to give a shout out to our friends in Texas and Tennessee. Apparently this storm has been especially unkind for them. Best of luck with that.

you are like my mother. she cannot stand heat. and I cannot stand cold, lol.

They'll be up to to my shoulders. Lol. That would work though.
Aye, yup.

Which reminds me, I think I'm low or out of them.

As soon as we warm up a tad more, the hens are going OUT for the day to air out their stinky butts. They've been stuck inside for a week due to cold and excessive winds.

I have cages from the prisoners to wash out and I'll be working on the hoophouse today. Arthritis will just have to suffer along, I'm not wasting a 55 degree February day waiting for it to stop hurting, rails and boards are my goal today. Then I'll make a list of lumber and hardware for the ends. If I can't find a 36 inch plus door at habitat, I shall build one.

Looks like 12 rustic rugs off this warp on the loom. I have feelers out to sell them at the country store of a local living history farm. We shall see.

Have a good day all.

I put in my Horseradish and Rhubarb "Victoria" order in yesterday at Park Seed.
I can't believe how many people don't like rhubarb, lol. Rhubarb cobbler and Rhubarb muffins are so amazing. My husband used to eat it raw! I might try that once...
My Oma had a Rhubarb plant that fed my mom's family diligently for years. It was, I swear, a zillion years old, LOL! I have fond memories of having Rhubarb in much of her Mennonite desserts, and dipping fresh rhubarb into sugar! Yum!
