What did you do in the garden today?

Mine always have some smaller chokes as some bigger ones like you see in the store. They are heavy feeders so fertilizing every two weeks is important during the growing season.

Bunny poop is the best during the leaf stage but something that supports flower and fruit growth when they start to show up is a good way to get bigger chokes. I’m thinking about trying the liquid stuff that I have for hydroponics next year.
Nitrogen early then more phosphorus

Wow, I haven't fertilized mine at all. But I know the soil has lots of organic matter and composted manure mixed in it. I'll keep the fertilizing tips in mind. Thanks!

I looked at it this morning and it seems to be still growing a little, and pushing its way higher out of the leaves. I might just pick it today. Probably better to pick it too soon than too late.

Patience. They don’t grow really fast. Give it more time, give it something with phosphorus and see what happens. They need regular water or they’ll be dry and tough.

I didn't plan on working today, but it happened anyway.

Started out picking some zucchinis, green beans and yellow wax beans. Not a lot, but a nice mess. I think I'll blanch and freeze this batch of beans. They should all fit into a quart freezer bag. And I want to make sweet relish this year with chopped zucchinis and onions. I bought all the spices I'll need last year but never got around to using them. I like sweet relish on hamburgers, hotdogs and mixed with canned salmon.

While picking the beans I noticed that when I reseeded part of the row due to deer damage I inadvertently planted vining rattlesnake beans in the row of bush beans. Duh!

So I drove a couple of Tposts and put up a mini-trellis for the 10 or so rattlesnake bean plants. Chopped some cattle panel to size and wired it in place.

I'm glad I made the mistake, because I really wanted to see beans vining up this year. I never grew climbing beans before.

It rained this morning! We needed it to keep the grass alive. I checked my weather app and it said it was 73 degrees after the rain so I grabbed my bucket and headed out to harvest more grapes.

I weather app lied. I was drenched in sweat within 15 minutes.

I did fill a 5 gallon bucket though... Gonna make more grape juice later today.
