What did you do in the garden today?

I used to have a small exotic mushroom farm, but had to close it down when I injured my back several years ago. I've missed growing and eating them, though :( So I just some ordered mushroom spawn from Northspore.

I ordered Blue Oysters and Snow Oysters, both of which grow well in straw. I'm excited to have some mushrooms in the freezer again! Love them in my winter soups, stews, and crocks <3.

I've attached a photo from my Shitake harvest a couple of years ago as eye candy. Sadly, those logs have petered out, and I don't have the physical fortitude to make more.

on a well, so just the electric to pump it, probably cost me an extra $10
I would have found it 12 hours after I turned it on, had I walked the garden first thing in the morning as usual, but I had to run to Menards in the morning, so I skipped the walk.
Oh well. What is done is done.

OK EVERYONE having issues with sealing/non-sealing Ball'Kerr'Golden Harvest flat lids, call the company, do not email.
Don't ask for replacements, or refunds, simply state that you want them to go back to the solid lids that made them a 100 year old household, trusted, name.
Yes, you know how to can.
Yes, you know how to test a seal.
Yes, you know about headspace.
Yes, you know you don't have to preheat the lids any more.
Yes, you know leave the rings on for 12-24 hours after removing from the canner.

Tell them, it's not just you, it's nationwide, a simple search online and youtube will show the lack of steel, lack of seals, lack of confidence in the product.
Tell them you are moving on to another brand that DOES work.

Emails were getting ignored, the phone call lady was VERY interested in experienced canners having an issue. If we're having it, beginners don't stand a chance.
Amen to that. I want to learn how to can. Can't believe they would ignore customers because they emailed them instead of calling.

What did they say about formic acid? That's what we used.

I have read of people using rhubarb leaves in their hives, since they have lots of oxalic acid.

Our last bee club meeting was about treating for mites. It was presented by one person who is very knowledgeable. I tried to attach a pdf of various treatments, but I don't know if it came through. I can't remember where I found it.

:fl

That's Deformed Wing Virus. The wings on the bees don't grow correctly. They can't go forage for pollen or nectar. This is death for the hive if enough get it.
they are also working on the verrona mite problem
(no idea where the other half of that post went! I was working from my cell phone.)

Trick was, that they only accepted fully filled forms.
The forms as as a mandatory field, the MODEL number of the unit you are having a problem with. Jar lids have NO model number on them to put in that field.
I fooled it this time by inserting 000000 in the required field.
But without a number in the field they reject the form.

So crazy how companies can get away with so much garbage and make it look like it's the customers that don't know what they are doing.

I picked a pair of zucchinis and gave them to my neighbor when he brought me over a loaf of homemade banana bread. Fair exchange!
I picked a zucchini and yellow squash last week and cut them up like French fries and coated them in milk and seasoned flour and deep fried them. I took them to the corner store and ate some with the owner of the store. She said she has never had fried squash of any kind. She told me it was amazing.
