I buy starts for some things too. I mean, a jalapeño is pretty much successful and easy to find…tomatoes, also easy. But, for the direct seeded, I buy seeds.I have so many seeds, I really don't need to order anything. If I can't direct sow it, I buy starts - I just don't have room to start seeds. I do need some wildflower seeds though, they worked out really well last year. I did order new bare root strawberries for spring a while back, I'm digging up the ones out there now & repurposing the 2 beds for melons on a cattle panel trellis. Strawberries will have their own greenstalk. As will onions, peppers & greens. Nothing is going to break my back this year!
I do want to try some edamame - I might need another greenstalk for that tho, lol.
I need to buy more insect netting though.
I enjoy edamame. Basically you grow until they are plump and pod filled out. You can wait until a pod or two per plant looks like it is crossing over to the drying out side (slight yellow on a pod or two) and pick then. Bc it’s a pick them all at once scenario, just chop the main stem at the ground and carry all plants to a shady are to remove pods. Give the plants and leaves to the chickens- they love them!! About 30 min later remove the denuded stem for the compost pile.
