What did you do in the garden today?

I love the attention to low carb flour with bacon grease 😁
That’s the glory of a low carb diet. You can eat what you want so low as the carb count is low. I’ve lost 40lb since Jan. 29.
Are those beefsteak tomatoes?
Yes. Some sort of generic heirloom my local stores carry every other year that grows good in my locality.

but if I used any of the stuff in those shaker bottles I'd have a reaction & need Benedryl. I don't know how they processed stuff, but whatever they used, it sure as he'll did not agree with me. Still doesn't. I had 1 slice of Giordano
Maybe msg

The egg I used to root my mango scion smelled awful after a few days. It was attracting flies, so I pulled out the scions and washed off the rotten egg and stuck them in a live banana tree stump that I chopped for this experiment. I covered the stump with a clear plastic bag and secured it with black electric tape.

I saw a new video on rooting a mango scion and it was something that I could relate to. It made a lot of sense, and I can't believe I didn't figure it out before watching this video. I know it works since I just planted some failed air layering branches left on the tree, and they look like they will take root. I'll know if the new shoots don't dry up and die. However, I think the best way to root a mango branch is air layering, so it's a waste of time to follow the video.

I think the egg and soda videos were click bait to get views, but I still want to try rooting a mango leaf in soda out of curiosity.

You know - I should have known better! This is my 2nd year growing cabbage (in a raised garden), and they were covered, the day I put them in. The kale are in my greenstalk, up on my deck (I have 7 of them, now!) I know Kale is a brassica! I should've covered them on day one.

BTW, Sue ~ I'm going to message you a great mesh cover, sold on Amazon. Less expensive than those sold on GS
Do share the info. We have moths, carrot maggot flies, root maggot terds, etc. I don't grow carrots and radishes anymore because of them.

I wondered what happened to 100 red tulips I had planted on a huge gorgeous slope, with blue hydrangea in back of them...oh so lovely that 1st year...yes I saw "something" dug some up (squirrels I think) but the following years, the ones remaining would shoot up leaves, then nothing, no blooms. Each year there were less & less. I dug up what leaf shoots popped up last year & moved them to 1 smaller spot & fertilized the soil. I got 10 Tulip blooms this year. I guess they need more attention & nourishment? Not at all like Daffodils...man the Dafs are doing fantastic, even multiplied so I had to dig, separate & have more areas of them. Go figure. Tulips are pretty but I do not have that kind of time to be fooling with them, sorry Tulips, I leave you to the Garden Society, they plant a huge area for the town of Lewes every year. Now I know why...they just aren't so great at coming back reliably.
Recently read in a tulip catalog that some varieties are better at coming back. Some produce too many baby bulbs, which robs the original bulb and then they peter out. Darwins are supposed to be better at it, but your experience proves otherwise in your area and garden. Squirrels are bulb poachers. I'm trying tulips this year in pots. My master gardener friend said to dig them up every year. I'm not sure on the timing of that. I'll have to get more info.

I heard a familiar sound last night. It's almost like a chicken sound, a hen can make some funny sounds now & then. It seemed to be right by the back door, which is not possible, considering where the coops are. I had to go see who was making this odd sound. I went out there & saw no birds at all. No foxes. No one. I went back in to make dinner. There it was again...sounded like it was right there by the kitchen window now. I remembered the last time I heard something similar. I checked, lo & behold, ya know that crazy gray tree frog I relocated a few weeks ago? Took it to a nice pond with tons of trees about 2 acres away. That little stinker came back! Same crazy tree frog! There it is...hiding from the hot sun, in a shaded crevice of a wooden rack, on the deck, by the kitchen window. For a small critter, it can make some noise! Lol

I think it could be it's cousin, whom he told where to hide. :lau

Finally got the remainder of the germinated bean seeds planted yesterday, between rain showers. I had a less than 50% germination rate on one of my freshly bought packets of bean seeds. Emailed the company.
I got wet the first time I had gone outside, it was sunny and the the gusty wind brought a rain cloud. The weather is so very windy, and rain in between. Good day to turn the oven on and bake! Still in the mid 50's here. Come on summer!
