What did you do in the garden today?

Ditto, I like the live & let live way, whenever possible. I've relocated many hawks, an Eagle & a few owls when I was with Tri State Bird Rescue. It's a good feeling when they soar away healthy after some TLC & recuperation.
I have lots of problems with raptors. I chase the Hawks away but share turkey with the owls. Usually they get a dozen poults. Fall they get the adults. I don't feel as bad feeding raptors compared to trash pandas.
If they ever put a hunting season on raptors I would take advantage of it. But their numbers aren't large enough for it. 6 breeding pairs of Bald eagle in my county. One is about a half a mile away. They have visited the poultry yard. The toms chased them off.
Lots of red tail, conservation officer cutting through my place said there were getting to be too many.

Most states it's legal with landowners permission.
I have such a problem with townfolk dumping their problems that I have to deal with.... that I try to discourage everyone 😂.
I'm up to 122 raccoons since 2021. Most wouldn't go in the box trap and I have to use dog proof with marshmallow so I don't catch feral cats.
The local wildlife rehabilitation center was told this year, by IL state, to refuse orphan raccoons because of population explosion of racoons. I would say they were all dumped here but I'm catching adults.
I would never dump a critter on someone else's property (private property) without their permission. That's just rude....

My catawba grapes, which I severely pruned last fall, has gone absolutely insane with growth in July. And now I see it is setting fruit.

I've all but given up on the tomatoes, but it's too hot to bother pulling them out. So whatever they provide, they provide.

I cut down the Lovage this morning as it was setting seed and I don't need more of that. Love the smell, spicy, anise, licorice smell. I know, it sounds weird.

I'm watering the garden and orchard every few days now. The insane heat and dry season is upon us.

Watered the garden today, except for the tomatoes. They didn't need it.

Some critter dug a couple of small depressions in the garden last night, one near a butternut squash and the other in the spot where I planted dill seeds. Squirrel? Chipmunk? Bird? No real harm done so I'll live with it.
Night critters digging here are fox (little stinker buries treats then digs them up for a late snack, usually same night), possums, rats or mice. Day digs are usually squirrels, groundhogs & dusk digs are usually rabbits. I'm not sure when June bugs or other beetles dig, but they do, I see the little holes & if I look, there they are. They all keep my place aerated. Lol
