What did you do in the garden today?

Ha several restaurants and fast food can't get workers and have closed, limited hours or just drive through. Ever since covid.
The 2 stores I normally shop at besides Aldi have been out of little carts when I go between 9 and noon. I am able to go back out and find a cart, but some can't.
I have had vehicles dinged by runaway carts.
Yeah, people are rude letting their carts do that.

As far as working, I wouldn’t want to deal with people in fast food. Customer service sucks too.

Might be theft issues? My usual grocery store recently put some rude notes in the bottom of their hand baskets warning against taking them.
There are locking wheels on carts to keep them from being taken. I think it’s essentially charging to pay someone to collect the carts. On top of exorbitant food costs.

Yesterday I picked tomatillos and got so many that I decided to rip out half of what we planted in the garden. To make room for direct sow fall crops. I canned 7 more pints of tomatillos. I don't know that I'll need to plant tomatillos next year with the stock I have. On Thursday I canned 6 quarts of diced tomatoes.

Pulled out the cucumber plants. I'm going to start seeds today.

Cut down some of the haggard looking tomato plants that weren't producing any fruit. I leave the roots intact until all of them are ready to pull, so that way tangled roots don't get diseased or stressed.

I also made 18 half pints of peach jam yesterday. Finally caught up with the ripe fruit. Still need to process lots that are in the freezers. Grapes are starting to get ripe. Going to pickle a bunch.

People here will abandon their carts instead of walking back to get their quarter.
We don't have an Aldi's, but cart theft is a thing here. We have a very large homeless population. They use the carts to move their belongings when the city forces them to leave their camps. The city throws away everything they leave behind. It's a really depressing and frustrating situation here.

I’ve never grown tomatillos, what do you use them for?

It's 88 outside and 40% humidity. I harvested some more tomatillos, a single potato, some bell peppers, corn, and pulled out more tomatillo plants. Its too hot, had to go inside.

Going to get seed starter soil, my compost isn't ready, and I'm not risking molds killing my seedling sprouts again. I hate buying soil but the convenience wins this time.
