My MIL did pickled grapes and now I'm hooked. They're so good on a cracker with cheesePickling grapes? I'd never thought about that.
As said above, plus some varieties are sweet enough to eat fresh.
Whatever happened to going to Walmart, getting some steel wool and chain to make fire wire? When I was a teenager.... That's what we did for fun. Usually we didn't burn anything down, and we weren't being destructive. In the bigger town and city this is a big problem. One store, that has since closed in Joliet, had concrete ballards so close you couldn't get a cart through. You would have to pull up to load if it was more than you could carry. Lots of homeless there.
In the town east of me it's kids riding them down the parking lot into the ditches and putting them on the train tracks. I'm sure there's some homeless but I don't hear about them.
Last winter I was trying to help a newly homeless young couple. They were living in an old tent that was leaking pretty badly. It was near zero outside. All their blankets were wet and muddy. They had a propane heater that they found in a dumpster but no propane. We don't have an Aldi's, but cart theft is a thing here. We have a very large homeless population. They use the carts to move their belongings when the city forces them to leave their camps. The city throws away everything they leave behind. It's a really depressing and frustrating situation here.
Today was definitely NOT one of those days, nor will tomorrow be, nor the day after that, or the day after that.....ugh....Some days, when you're sweating and your shirt is soaked and there's a bit of a breeze, you can stand up and feel the effects of evaporative cooling.
Today was not one of those days. The air was almost still.
But WHY would they leave that all unsupervised?Last winter I was trying to help a newly homeless young couple. They were living in an old tent that was leaking pretty badly. It was near zero outside. All their blankets were wet and muddy. They had a propane heater that they found in a dumpster but no propane.
DH and I bought them a nice 2 room tent, all new bedding and warm, double sleeping bag, enough propane to last a month, and a bunch of groceries.
Sadly other homeless people raided their stuff when they weren't there. Stole most of their food and took a knife to the tent.
I really just don't understand why some people feel the need to be so awful to others...
To find work, more food, electricity, go to court. Who knows. Regardless. It's viscous in the homeless world. Others get jealous, or quite literally think it's their stuff, not someone else's. You can also be threatened and beaten for having stuff that others want. Sometimes worse. But WHY would they leave that all unsupervised?
