I think you can usually use whatever type of hot pepper you prefer. When a recipe calls for "chillies" are they meaning a specific type of pepper? Or any hot pepper?

Having the same issue with spinach, although in my case I’ve been using seed library seeds for spinach so they might have just been too old. Lettuce first planting did nothing but second is doing well so far - those were my own saved seeds so not sure what the problem was with the first round. Argula was saved too and came up first planting.<double sigh>
4 Feb, 21 Feb -1st and second planting of pepper seeds. Still nothin’ . The best I’ve gotten is sprouted seeds that are still bent over (leaves not popped up yet).
I don't use preen in my food garden. They used to make one for vegetable gardens, but not anymore. I believe the label states not to use in food producing areas. I have used Casoron around the berry rows but will switch to putting down cardboard in between rows, which is now covered in moss! Maybe I'll leave the moss, as I don't think weeds grow through it. Any thoughts? You may know this. Peas will come up with preen down. Beets will be lumpy if grown with preen.
I did not know they quit making it for gardens. Old information it was just Treflan used in soybean fields. I used to work in a seed and hardware store in the 80s.I don't use preen in my food garden. Here is an article on seed viability. How you store your seeds between seasons can affect it shelf life. Your pepper seeds may have petered out.<double sigh>

Had to re-order some seeds bc bought enough for single seed per cell sowing this year, followed by single seed next year. Germination good enough for enough plants in the end. Rather than saving money, I had to use next year seeds to re-seed, and now re-purchase a few varieties. GAH!
So, I’ll prep more trays and use a different seed starting mix. The mix I used this year is the same as all previous years mix that has been successful. Ingredients have not changed in the mix. Not sure the issue, but I’ll start fresh. I hope the seeds come quickly.
I’ll probably end up starting tomatoes at the same time. Usually I’ll start peppers, then once they are off heat mats, I’ll start tomatoes and tomatillos.
I got surprised not finding it available one year. I did use it when I could get it.I did not know they quit making it for gardens. Old information it was just Treflan used in soybean fields. I used to work in a seed and hardware store in the 80s.
What seed supplier do you use?<double sigh>

I have moss growing in one of my stone pathways. I leave it because I love the look, but I do have to weed carefully in the moss cuz the weeds do grow through it.I don't use preen in my food garden.
