What did you do in the garden today?

Yes, both a long acting and a fast acting. I was diagnosed Type 2 in 2004 while prepping for my knee replacement. It runs in my family.
I am bound to get it eventually, i carry too much weight eating because i get depressed. Hoping i will lose some working outside. Lost 20 pounds in TN but gained it back after Dad died. He was type 2 diabetic but still drank alcohol and ate whatever he wanted. He got so he could hardly walk. Sad the way he went.

You already harvested pumpkins? Missouri's harvest season must be way ahead of Minnesota's! What kind of pumpkins are they? (I'm a HUGE pumpkin/winter squash fan)
I have no idea what kind they are. They were volunteers! I think the seeds came from some pumpkins that came from either Schnucks ( grocery store or Walmart. They were donated to the science classes at my school last year & when they were finished with them I brought them home for my chickens to enjoy. I don't think most pumpkins are ready to be harvested in Missouri yet. Mine just "got planted" really early

Rats, the wildlife has been busy overnight. Something undid one of the latches on the guinea brooder, and broke off or pulled up some of my sunflowers. And another critter ate half of my black eyed Susan, which was just getting over being in the pot too long. Did some watering , since we have not had rain. Well, off to work on the guinea tractor. Need that finished, like now!

Something are all of my new sunflower plants that had just started coming up. The first go round all died from the super hot temps. I thought I was going to have some success finally. I guess not.

Sorry, it stinks when that happens. Hope mine hurry up and grow. Wish i had a wood chipper besides the dog!

I got some more tree limbs ran through the wood chipper and put the wood chips in the garden. Still need a lot more. Pulled up the dead pumpkin vines. Has rained a gentle rain since this afternoon, so everything is getting a good watering!
I think we are expecting rain Monday. It is very dry so i watered today. Been busy building coop so i have not done much in the garden but weed and pick peas and beans. Hopefully i can get the last watermelon plant in and the two tomato plants i bought.

Another cantaloupe picked itself today, found it lying on the ground. Growing them vertically sure cuts down on picking through the vines and getting rashy from the spines and prickles. Nice soft soil in my raised beds, so no harm.

Expecting rain again tomorrow, so I got some fall seeds in the ground today. More peppers (mini sweet rainbow) and bush beans. And some various flowers. Dug out some sediment from my big drain and the channel between runoff catchments and my pond. Smelly sticky mess that went to the compost pile. Also added the shavings from my temp brooder in the sun room.

Breaking that brooder down made me realize just how much dust those chicks made! How do people brood them in their houses proper? I'd forget how to breathe, or die gagging from the smell. That litter was already composting in there and WARM! Had a tarp folded into quarters under it, and heavy greenhouse plastic glazing under that. Thank goodness! It was dry on top, but got damping towards the bottom four inches or so. Was about 9-10" deep all told. Anyway, it worked fine. Still got 25 big thriving birds.

@CapricornFarm Cap, your tractor looks great! Glad it's almost done. You deserve a rest after that big push. I'm excited about your chicks. Pretty fancy babies you got coming!

I've bathed, got a purring kitty draped across my lap leaning back in bed. I'm out shortly. Y'all have a good evening and sweet dreams.
No rest for the weary, i need to clean that brooder, move it, dig up the dirt where it was. Plant the rest of my potted plants, and finish the last wall and roof for the coop. I really should paint any surfaces i missed on the boards, as Monday its supposed to rain. And i need groceries! Man, i need to sleep! Good night!

Went out early and squashed some bugs on my cucumbers. It's a constant battle. Am going to see if I can get more of the branches sent through the wood chipper, but that will have to be this afternoon. Am suppose to meet my brother around 11 at my Mom's apartment. Oh, I also found a small onion I must have overlooked and brought in a cucumber and a small green pepper ( the branch had broken off the plant).

Finishing getting my brooder bedding in the gardens and compost. Got to clean that sun porch hard! So much dust! Got a bunch of spent stuff pulled out and new seeds in for the late season planting. Chicks gound a 4" baby brown rough snake in one of the loads of grass, garden, leaves I tossed them. Oh my! Such vicious little velociraptors! Baby snake never stood a chance.

Rain here on Monday/Tuesday, so working on coop interior, caulking some more, hope to start really painting it out.
