What did you do in the garden today?

About rooting broken fruit tree branches; most fruit trees are grafted. The fruit bearing variety is grafted onto a variety with superior disease and rooting characteristics, often more adapted to growing in a specific area. So if you get a sucker, whip or a branch to root and grow, it might not do as well as the parent tree. It might be much more susceptible to things like nematodes, root fungus, or whatever and it might have wimpy roots. Just something to think about.

I am beginning to feel like a personal chef for my animals! Pick the fruits and the veggies. Chop the fruits and the veggies. Feed the fruits and the veggies to the animals. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat!

Dismantled the duck Clubhouse and made a second turkey run for the underaged turkey poults. Moved the other turkey run so the guys can see each other.

Something bad happened while working outside that literally crippled me with muscle pain. So I had to be assisted inside and examined. No "cause" found. Possible sting from some flying object. Called Nurse Nana. She's the one that suggested the sting. No swelling, no heat, no obvious trauma, but I can NOT walk at all. From my knee to my toes, OW.

So....going to get assistance with a shower. (Hey, I got stinky today, doing all that work out in the heat!) Then to bed. Nurse Nana instructed me to take pain pills. Uh, can't get up to get them. And to take allergy medicine. Again, can't walk at all. So my assistant who had to put all the animals to bed and do head counts and the dishes said no now. :(
For chopping, use a small food processor to save time. Also freeze some in ziplock bags with some water for cooling treat blocks during hot weather.
Sound like you may have pinched the sciatic nerve doing all that dismantling and moving pens. Your friend will be ice followed by heat on your lower back.

My wife has been wanting a greenhouse and I want all the starter racks and plants out of the basement, so guess what...another project in the works.
...Our experience with past greenhouses is that full sun greenhouses are not as versitile and are as hot as Death Valley in July. We have a spot by the garden with a frost-free hose bib nearby and the option for electric.
...I scavenged a utility sink last year and am putting that in the plan as well. I'm probably overthinking this, but I like a good project.:) Will post pics when (and if) it happens.
We built an addition on the in-laws garage. The sink had a pvc pipe outlet with a rollout gutter hose so the "grey" water from the sink could go to the garden. We also put a diverter on that sent water to the septic system.
Shelving on the side walls were hinged so we could raise them out of the way when not holding trays. The greenhouse became a nice place to sit during winter when you wanted to get out of the house.

Started this morning watering the pens and putting out feed because we have a critical heat alert today.

While the "boys" picked the okra and some peppers and pears, I worked on slipping skins and coring tomatoes. Just finished 15 quarts of soup starter. Started at 8am and pulled them from the water bath at 1:15. I can hear them pinging in the kitchen as they seal.

Our temperature is already 94 outside and the heat index is 110.

Yesterday I put the two pens of young ducks together. They are 30 days apart in age. They swam together during the day in the kiddie pool and slept together last night in the coop. This morning they are moving as one flock. I think I'm seeing drake feathers on 4 out of the 18.

Will go out to feed Susie and will top off all the water containers with cold water from the well.

Potted up some cuttings from my pink Bee Balm.

Ran around the yard in front of my husband. Looked like he was chasing me on the ride on lawn mower. I was clipping plantain leaves to save for me Poison Ivy salve. Have Sage in the garden, and DIL should be bringing me some Jewel Weed on Tues. Remaining ingredients include olive oil, coconut oil, possibly Vitamin E, and bee's wax.

Super hot here today. Green bean/potato/garlic foil roasted veggies, and pork ribs on grill tonight.

We have a spot by the garden with a frost-free hose bib nearby and the option for electric that gets full sun 10-2 and diffuse light the rest of the time. I think this will work for an 8x10 shed. I plan on having a pop-up skylight to let out excess heat when needed. I'll could put in a fan exhaust option as well. We have a friend who is demo-ing their greenhouse to build a porch and I am hoping to scavenge some of that to use in our construction. I scavenged a utility sink last year and am putting that in the plan as well. I'm probably overthinking this, but I like a good project.:) Will post pics when (and if) it happens.

Sounds like a good project.

I'm finally able to walk without a cane! Made my first trip (in 1-2 weeks) around the whole garden today. Most of the crops are still looking good! Me and hubs picked some zucchini and yellow squash. I also found at least 4 cucumbers that are almost ready to pick, so was really happy about that. However, the weeds are really trying to take over some beds, especially our newly-planted shrub bed. I also visited Bertha & her chicks who are out in their own private pen during the day. The chicks are about 2 weeks old now - they're doing really well, and are super cute! (what chick isn't?). The apples are getting ripe - it will soon be time to can some apple butter, pie filling, or something apple-y. Also have lots of ripe tomatoes to can, as well. I just love canning season!
