What did you do in the garden today?

Oh, yum! Your pears look delicious, and really good-sized. I love pears - probably my favorite fruit. How old was your tree when you started getting fruit?

My brother gave us a small pear tree he had grafted about 4-5 years ago. It started getting fairly big, so last spring I bought a pollinator pear tree (an Ubileen pear tree). Both are doing well and are bigger than me. I'm wondering when I can start to expect some fruit? Can't wait!
We had 2 pears on our tree the second year. Then we had to move. But i will plant more where i am.

This tree is about 8 years old . It really depends on the variety . I have a 1 year old Moonglow that had 2 pears . They fell off early . It may have more next year . Harrow sweet is said to bear early . Often the first year after planting .

Would you recommend using the crockpot for making tomato sauce?
I get given tomatoes and I make tomato sauce in the slow cooker. I roast everything first. Garlic tomatoes onions then bung it in the slow cooker. It's all pretty much hands-off. Just needs a stir every now and then, in the oven and then in the slow cooker. Very good for lazy/unmotivated people like me.

Watermelon extinguishes habanero heat? Who would have thunk it? I'll have to remember that!
Bob tried it again tonight with tobasco on cheese crackers. The cubes are about 2 square inches. It is kind of strange how it does it. I don't know about it working for acid reflux, but taste buds yes..

Been picking green beans. A lot of green beans. I've frozen about 4 lbs. of bush beans so far. I'll have to do another couple of lbs. tomorrow. I've been harvesting the pole beans while they are still slender and tender for eating. Our jujube tree has fruit turning red, but the squirrels are getting most of those. The ones we do get are delicious. We thought the tree was an olive tree all of the years, and never bothered to eat them before. Jujubes also make great projectiles for a slingshot. Lol! Been teaching my 3 year old how to use it. I have 2 bell pepper plants putting on quite a few flowers. I've also picked a large amount of okra. Canned some, froze some. Harvested our first cucumber today, too. My delicata squashes ended up being kind of pithy and bitter. I think I picked them a little too early. Cooked them up for my laying hens, and saved the seeds to try again next year.

I'm going to have to plant some peas this year. Problem being the gophers. So I dig a trench lay a 3 foot wide 12 foot long piece of chicken wire in bottom put dirt back plant and then zip tie the length together.

Have been collecting duck weed from the pond for the chickens and mealworms. Both are eating quite a bit of it.
