Has anyone ever planted Bush beans by their sweet peppers? It the only spot where i think they’ll work but some of my companion planting charts say the don’t work well together but some don’t. Anyone ever done this? Hopefully I can get all that in this weekend with my cantaloupe
My companion planting book says that peppers and beans are not good companions b/c both are host to anthracnose. Aside from that, I can think of several other reasons why you wouldn't want them planted together: Peppers like their soil on the lean side. Too much nitrogen, and you will have lush plants but no fruit. Peppers also love the heat. If they get shaded by exuberant bush beans, they will rebel.
Rachel, I love your trellis. Very nice looking, and I expect it will be very sturdy. Clever use of the old step ladder. I couldn't even see it in there till I looked closely.
Finally, spring has arrived in Maine. Frogs started peeping this afternoon. I got a row of peas, some beets, spinach, mixed greens planted. Moved the bean trellis. Always a challenge to decide where to plant stuff.
I moved the seedlings out of the office. They will be spending their days outside when weather allows, and nights in the garage so they can harden off for planting.
Gave some Stella D'Oro and Iris (and some eggs) to the teen age girls down the street. They were delighted to have them. What a joy to see 2 sisters happily working in the soil to beautify their yard while their parents work!!!
